  1. @seung, @Rabbit Run says it's supposed to be today. Historically (looking at the least few years) it has been the 27th or 28th.
  2. So how are we feeling about PTS coming out tomorrow? Slim odds?
  3. Could someone speak more to the process of getting LOR again after not having success the first go? Did you have a strategy for keeping up with recommenders? Did you ask them to write a different LOR? Also, did you ask your POI how you could improve your application for the next attempt? If so, how long after hearing back did you wait?
  4. Do we know if any of the schools that sent out their first picks have gone down their lists to second picks yet? Is it still too early for that?
  5. TFW you're on your way to getting categorically rejected from PhD programs.
  6. I would check out books or articles from various persons of interest at each program. For example, find something to read by Norman Wirzba (and possibly Ellen Davis) at Duke Divinity. Willis Jenkins at the University of Virginia is doing interesting, very different but nevertheless theo-ethical environmental work. @Rabbit Run has named some other people to look at as well. Most of the programs you applied to should have a strong religion department or access to one at a nearby institution. That will be important if you want to do comparative religions. Seminaries might not have someone internal who does that kind of work but divinity schools should in the broader university.
  7. It really depends on what you specifically want to study within ethics. Do you have a sense of which topics?
  8. If you really just heard from POI @ Yale that's insane that they called you at 5-6AM their time... Anyone else here still waiting to hear from Yale?
  9. I'm suspicious as it seems a little too early for Yale and it sounded like @seung was saying they just sent their recommendations to GSAS for approval a day or two ago. The past couple years Yale didn't get back to applicants for first picks until Feb 19th at the earliest and Feb 24th at the latest. Though I also didn't see anything about waitlisting at Yale the past couple years. Did I just miss that or were no waitlisting reported at Yale or does Yale not waitlist its applicants?
  10. Make sure you use the appropriate portal. There were two different links to two different portals in that email: one for current Duke students and one for others.
  11. To whomever posted in the results section asking about Duke's GPR PhD program: it seems that invitations went out last week to people for the interview weekend. These invitations are a de facto acceptance should those invited desire to attend. Many will have applied to multiple programs and may wait to see where else they get in. If you're lucky, they'll accept somewhere else and you may get bumped up the waitlist and swipe their spot (assuming you did get on the waitlist, which I imagine you will be informed about a couple weeks after interview weekend in mid-February).
  12. I don't believe UVA interviews either (though some here have mentioned that might be changing) and rumor has it that they'll be deciding within the next week.
  13. On social media, I've seen posts about Baylor interviews for New Testament PhD applicants as well.
  14. Hey folks, I've applied to Ph.D. programs in Religious Ethics on the East Coast. I haven't seen anyone else around here mention applying to study ethics but I guess most people are just observing and not sharing. Or maybe I'm the only one and just picked a really fortuitous time to apply. Have any of you heard of people finishing a Ph.D. in Religion in the United States in less than five years? I heard some stories of people doing it in four and was interested to hear more about how they pulled it off.
