  1. Thanks for the good and insightful advise. We shall see, will talk to them tomorrow. Who knows, maybe we see each other there end of summer. incha'allah!
  2. He must've meant for cultural then. Thanks for the insight. Good luck to all of us.
  3. Spoke to one of the grad-students there yesterday. I was told socio-cultural will make decisions in the next two weeks.
  4. Absolutely no idea. Had the interview with Rutgers yesterday. Pretty informal as a whole. Some of the questions they asked were: Tell us about your research and how you would go about doing it (methodology etc.)? Why do you want to come to Rutgers? Have you got teaching experience?. Basically what other threats on Grad Cafe have said. If you prepare for an interview, know thyself and know them! Good luck to anybody that's still going through interviews.
  5. I wish you all the best with both, NYU and the Yale interviews. As far as I gather Yale is the more competitive program and smaller. As for UPenn, i spoke with them quite a lot over the past year. According to the head of program, they only admitted one student last year, due to funding pressures. The student's proposal had to cross different anthropological sub-fields (linguistic, cultural and physical). So I am sure Upenn is going to be similar this year. Tricky and very specific on who they admit. Peace, S.
  6. Hello Persiandoc, congratulations for the Yale interviews. No, nothing from any of them. NYU came out with results last year end of February, CUNY is known to be slow and Columbia, the king of slow, only got back to people in March. I got the offer at Davis and interviews at Rutgers, and Duke this week. Got officially rejected from Brown, and I guess unofficially from Yale. Duke and NYU are my top choices. The game is still completely open. May Fortuna be with all the anthros.
  7. Hey Goneneative, I've also been admitted to UC Davis. Great department! I am afraid tough the UC system has hardly any funding available, especially not for international students. We shall see. Congratulations for getting inn. Peace, Siad
  8. Hy mate, Columbia was super late last year. I think I got rejected finally mid April.
  9. I was contacted by the potential adviser, who connected me with department secratary in order to set up an interview with two members of faculty that I hadn't planned on working with.
  10. Yes, received an email from my POI to arrange a skype interview.
  11. Hello, I've applied to NYU too this year. Do you mean you had a telephone interview for this year already? Thanks.
  12. In this, the possibly most competitive year in the history of graduate school admission, I wonder who the bright young men and women are that made the race. It seemed to me that those who got into one of the top schools, seemed to get into others. Thus, what kind of background, GPAs, GREs, references and life-experiences do these applicants hold? And what do they consider to be their strengths and weaknesses. Congratulations to those of you who made it, good luck to those who'll try again next year.
