  1. Thank you!!! Honestly, something before mid-April would be fantastic. I'm sort of unemployed and homeless post-August, so I'd really like to start finding a job and a home if I'm not packing up and moving across the world. I'm sure many of us are in similar boats!
  2. That's what I'm up to! I love it, though, GBBO is such an anxiety reducer for me because everyone tries their best and nobody scolds them too harshly if they don't succeed. I've been in mourning about Malaysia informing so late (theoretically I still have a MONTH), but if everything is going through ridiculously early, maybe I'll get lucky.... I did just got a full round of rejections from grad schools, so I could use the good news and some solid plans!

That was me! I went to their AWP table and met a current fiction student who said that he didn't get any news from them until mid-March because he was on a secret waitlist. Their by-laws (according to him) prohibit them from having a real waitlist, so they have one and just don't tell applicants that they're on it. So first tier acceptances should go out soon, but you're not out of the running necessarily until the fat lady sings (or April 15th rolls around). I don't know if they tier rejections, though! Also, @Sallyj, Draft is the FB group for MFA applicants. Look up "Draft '17" on Facebook and you should find it!

Not to add panic, but there is a IWW fiction acceptance on Draft that hasn't made its way over to the results page on here yet Also, to indulge my own panic, do we have any info on Amherst poetry??? at all??? it seems like they started rolling out acceptances and then stopped, or that all of the people who got in after the first blimp of a person or two getting accepted haven't been on Draft or here?
  8. Silly question, but where can I see data for previous years w/r/t notification dates? I applied for an ETA in Malaysia and have just tried to put it out of my mind (grad schools are notifying for the next month or so, so I'm a bit occupied with anxiety about all of that), but it'd be nice to know when to expect to have my dreams crushed or solidified!

Any intel on poetry at UMass Amherst? I saw one acceptance on Draft and one on the results section here, and they could be the same person or different people. Have there really only been two possible reported acceptances? Is the rest of the accepted cohort in the stone ages of not reporting their results to strangers on the internet? Have they not finished making phone calls yet? Am I going crazy?

So I talked to them! There was no one at the booth who really knew (three students and an alum volunteer), but they did say that 1) acceptances with fellowships take longer because fellowships take longer, so not hearing first is not a bad thing 2) Amherst has a hidden waitlist, so if you haven't been accepted or rejected in March, you still may get in 3) that they wish me luck (which was really nice, they eyebrows all super sweet)

I feel like I could see 6-7 out of 9 doing that, but 100% of the remaining slots being filled without a peep seems unlikely, especially because that'd have to be true for all of the fiction people except for the one who posted their results on here and on Draft. 18/20 people not saying they've been accepted seems improbable to me. So, like, maybe not everyone's been notified? I'm at AWP and I'll hunt down their booth tomorrow and ask, if possible, just because the wait is killing me

    Fall 2017 MFA

Hey everyone! I don't think I've posted on here yet, though I'm on Draft a lot. I'm popping by to stress about UMass Amherst. That poetry acceptance (though no other poets seem to have been notified????) is haunting me. Stress!!!!!
  13. Ha, you're in FL too? And your school gets around 11 in each year? Mine also! Except my FPA is a woman, so I'd bet we're not at the same college Fingers crossed for our eventual escape from the swamp lands Nope. Teeny tiny public school in Florida. But we do tend to get a lot of people into Fulbright because we're lucky and also because our Fulbright and fellowship team are so helpful
  14. Congrats! I was originally going for research in Nepal, but then my host institution stopped responding to emails ( ) and I switched over to ETA in Malaysia VERY last minute. My FPA was verrrry anxious on my behalf, deciding mid-September and all to swap countries and grant types! But! I guess it worked out! Anyway, I'm still dying to go to Nepal, and I wish you the very best of luck! Mine said 50% chance for ETA semifinalists, though she said that my university in particular seems to either have people get eliminated in Jan or get the grant in the spring, with very few people making it to be semifinalists and then getting cut later. So statistically, I guess it's around 50%, but maybe particular schools or ways of writing proposals are more compelling once they make it to the host country?
  15. I got recommended! eeeeeeeee
  16. What's everyone's Plan B? If Fulbright doesn't work out (I hope it does, but still! in the interest of remembering there's a life outside of hitting "refresh" on gmail!), what are you excited to do with your time?
  17. Where are you atm? I'm in Paris! Congrats!!!!
  18. I email my advisor all the time for everything (the last email had the subject line "a question, not neurotic this time, I promise") but for some reason I feel bad pestering her about today's anxiety? I feel like she'd have told me herself if she thought I should know that today's the day, and the fact that she hasn't said anything is because she wants me to be calm and yet here I am.....
  19. Hey everyone! Created a gradcafe account just so I could share in the anxiety if you were thinking you had it bad with timezones-- I'm in Europe right now! I've been stressed about this since 3am EST, even though I logically knew no email was going to come in the middle of what is night for NY offices It's now 9:45pm, it's been a full day of non-stop anxiety ahhhhh!!!!!!
