  1. A note to any Germany ETA recipients (and research too, I guess!) who wander this way-- we have a facebook group! It's a good way to connect without spamming this board, since we're a pretty big group. Joinnnn usssssss :D

    Congrats to @jennymerri, @Imke, and @dsbanis!

Do you guys know when they typically send location assignments? I feel like people have already given me information about that before, but I can't remember anything off the top of my head.

No, I have no idea, but I'm DYING to know now. I'm kind of assuming they'll send follow-up emails? I'm hoping we won't have to wait until our medical stuff goes through, etc.

Am I wrong to be kind of miffed with them for taking so long to notify? I'm sure they have a reason, but no one is telling us anything. It's been almost six months since the national deadline.

No, it's not wrong for you to be miffed. I don't understand how it takes them so long. Granted, Germany has the most awards/candidates of any country, but even so, other big countries (Korea, Spain, Malaysia) have been pretty timely this year. If they don't notify this week, something might be off.

Yeah, exactly! I just wish that there was more communication about what's going on..

Waiting for Germany ETA is slowly crushing my soul

Seriously. I don't know how much longer I can do this D: I'm especially freaking out today since there's only ever been one time that Germany ETA has released later than 4/4.

  5. To any Germany ETA people who haven't yet stumbled onto our little thread on the spreadsheet, there is some kinda-news: apparently the German Commission was supposedly out of the office (potentially for the Berlin Conference? idk) but are back in today. I don't know where the person heard this, but if that's true, it's poooooossible that we might finally get notifications today!

Feeling really down about this Alternate status. My professors and the Fulbright advisor at my school have been encouraging and just angels following this bad news, but it's still rough.

I applied for 10 things this year (7 grad schools, Fulbright, Jet, and Tapif). I've been rejected from 8, alternate at 1, and waiting to hear back from the last (and I don't even WANT it at this point!).

Life goes on, but man, this is a bitter pill to swallow!

sending good luck vibes to other alternates, and hey, if you got a grant to Malaysia that you don't want, feel free to pass it this way lol

Awwwww no!!! I'm so sorry. Rejections are really demoralizing. I'm sure there are lots of awesome opportunities out there for you still, and who knows! One of them might still be the Fulbright. It's huge to have come this far, either way. Sending comforting thoughts your way :/

    THIS IS SO RELATABLE

I'm working at a summer camp, so I'm covered through the end of August. After that, which continent will I live on? We don't know!

Haha EXACTLY. I'll honestly feel soooooo much better once I have any kind of answers about what the summer and fall will bring.  You're applying to Malaysia, right? A ton of my coworkers are Malaysian, and they're some of the kindest, humblest, and hardest-working people I've ever met. That's obviously just speaking from my personal experience, but I wish you luck! I hope that you get to go and meet lots of awesome Malaysians!

    And congrats @chemteachersrule!!!!!!!! That's amazing!!

I think that's solid advice. I'm in transition of leaving my current job to live/work in a new city and I just want to know if i can go ahead and move all my crap to Houston or leave it here in Austin. Also, it's kind of nice to see the other Germany ETAs on here haha. That's very comforting for me.

Thanks! It's also worth noting that I, exactly like aheather, didn't bring the Fulbright up until I was in the interview stage and they asked me directly about what else I was applying for- my original plan was to stay mum, but I'm glad I was honest when they asked. Either way, I would just like to hear back from anything at this point, including my summer internships that I've been interviewing for... my life after May is just a big mysterious black hole right now haha.

And I know!! I feel like the Germany ETA group has quite a presence on here and on the spreadsheet, which is immensely comforting. I've been a bundle of nerves for the past two weeks.

I applied for a job I really, really want and told them during the interview that I am also a semi-finalist got Fulbright. I told them that if I get the grant, I will take it, but if I am an alternate or do not get the grant, I would love to work for them. I assured them that, should I sign a contract with them, I will honor that contract (even if I am an alternate and later pulled up from the list, I would then turn down the grant). They were really happy with this, and I believe they're holding off on making a decision on the new hire until I hear from Fulbright and let them know.

Yeah @cruxclaire, I'm in the same boat as aheather. I applied for a job and I told them that I was applying for the Fulbright  in the interview. It went pretty well, so they called me after and asked when I would hear from the Fulbright. I told them the time frame that I was expecting to hear back and they're currently waiting to hear my result before making a final hiring decision. They even told me that if I was accepted, they would be willing to offer me a position next year, upon the completion of the Fulbright. So my recommendation is to go ahead and apply anyway, and just be honest about your other possibilities!

  10. My coordinator just sent me an email with "Fulbright" in the subject line....................and it was just about an event that my university's holding for the semifinalists. I almost had a heart attack for nothing.

  11. Nope, @amadeustx :( I'm in the same boat. Based on previous years, it's likely that we'll have to wait at least a few more days before ETA notifies. However, they have had a few years where they send out emails the day of or the day after, so it's not completely ruled out that we could hear back sooner than expected!

  12. I emailed my advisor this morning and she told me: "I just re-checked the email from IIE, and it says all applicants will be notified by the end of the day on 1/18 – that’s today! So it should be very soon."

Idk what "end of day" means any more, though :/
