  1. Kazakhstan has sent an acceptance to a friend in the past hour ~
  2. Thank you everyone for your encouragement! The optimism is very welcome. To quote my FPA on alternate status: "this is an odd kind of purgatory...That said, I have worked with quite a few applicants who did indeed get promoted to recipient after initially being named alternates, so it does happen fairly often." So I'm sure it depends on the ratio of finalists to alternates, but the status exists for a reason so it definitely can yield positive results for both those declining and those getting 'promoted.' Congrats @screel45 ~
  3. Japan notified around 10am, which I was not expecting at all - Congratulations everyone! I am an Alternate, so the waiting continues! It feels like I'm still in a limbo state since the 6 finalists in the newly graduated research category could make any decisions that may or may not impact this. But it's still a blessing that I've made it this far, I'll just have to see how things turn out over the next month.
  4. Yay for all the Korean ETAs, you all have marvelous plans whatever your status is!
  5. Thanks so much everyone for the support and optimism! It seems like this group is much more vibrant than past year's activity, and there's a lot I've learned from reading. It's been rough to wait for hearing about Japan research, and receive either rejections from all of the East Asian studies programs at US grad schools I applied to or offers to programs with no funding, which are essentially impossible for me to attend. Fulbright is the last chance out of my 7 applications for the upcoming academic year. It's increasingly frustrating the extent to which funding matters when poorer students try to advance their careers academically right after graduating with a bachelors degree. BTW, my FPA said quite a lot of the FPAs are coordinating the results and data of their students in a similar fashion to how this spreadsheet is working - it's helpful to have their support and know they're excited and waiting just as much and long as we all are for positive results!
