  1. B is not a native English speaker and they used it to mean this is not acceptable. http://dictionary.cambridge.org/dictionary/english/be-not-on
  2. Not romantically, but they have an intense attitude with one another. What prompted this question (since B is furious rather than loving)?
  3. Thank you for your comment!
  4. Hello, I would like to ask what people think about the following conversation. Is A acting inappropriately? Is B's reaction natural? Thank you! A and B are in the cab, A will get off first. A: I think this is the last time I see you before (a conference). B: Yes, that might be the case. A: Good luck for me, then? B: (face-palm, clutch head, raise voice) This is unbelievable, unbelievable. This is not on. A: I only said, fingers crossed. What have I done wrong? B: You cannot tell people what to tell you! How can you do this? (to the cab driver: My friend will get off here.) (in an angry voice) Good luck. All the best. This is not on. A: Good night. (gets off)
  5. Yes, one of those things you cannot change. Thank you!
  6. Thank you for saying so. The dynamics of this relationship is such that I feel that even feeling bad about this just shows that there is something wrong with me.
  7. I definitely will if I make it that far.
  8. Today I couldn't help overhearing a professor say to one of my peers that they should go out and celebrate his acceptances. I felt miserable because I have also been accepted and wanted to celebrate, but let alone doing something outside my supervisor even turned down my offer to have lunch together at school. What is worse, I'd just given a talk on my thesis which was good, another thing to celebrate, and immediately talk about afterwards if one was interested. It is just that it does not matter how successful I am and how much my supervisor admires me, it never ignites any connection whatsoever, no interest whatsoever in me as an upcoming colleague. When somebody admires you a lot but does not like you, it feels even worse.
  9. I do not know what to make of my communication with my supervisor.
