I received official word from UVA of being placed on the waitlist last night. My POI had already told me unofficially a couple weeks ago.
-
Great idea menge. The time is most likely approaching. I know some schools begin their second round as early as late February.
-
Since the results page isn't working, I'm asking here. Anyone know when Union will be sending out decisions? Seems like this week.
-
Yes, you are correct, and I was wrong! 10 admits. 8 was the number for Yale, where I was SO close to getting into =[ it seems the trauma is messing with my memory
-
Princeton theological seminary, like many other schools this year, has cut the number of seats for admissions. This time around there are only eight seats open as opposed to the typical 12.
-
My colleagues and fellow sufferers and veterans: any advice for one trapped in the purgatory of the waitlist?
-
Anyone here know anything about the funding at Union Theological Seminary in nyc? I know they only give 4 years, but wondering if it provides a stipend that allows you to survive in the city.
-
Funny. I read the email at 5. Email was sent last night. Is that sufficiently precise?
-
My thoughts exactly
-
Thanks turktheman. I appreciate it.
-
They have already sent out letters to those who have been admitted. Sorry eshtah:( I applied to Columbia and haven't heard. That means we Have either been rejected or waitlisted. We must wait and see

The Yale admissions process is quite different than that of other schools. The department recommends more applicants that are typically admitted, and the graduate school has much greater say in the final decisions. I really do not understand how the explicitly said that the department does not rank it's recommendations. graduate school ranks the recommended applicants, because the POI explicitly said that the department does not rank it's recommendations.

Just heard from POI @ Yale. Though being recommended for admission, I was ultimately not admitted by the graduate school. Very disappointed. the thing I don't know is if I've been rejected or waitlisted.
-
I received notification of my recommendation the first week of February. And also, I second this question
-
Yes, but in the case of other schools, it seems that the Graduate School actually vets recommended applicants on the basis of funding. Departments regularly recommend more applicants than are admitted, putting the leftover onto the waitlist. This seems like a strange process to me, even inefficient. But at the end of the day, I am still at the mercy of the system.
-
I second that request.
-
From the results page, looks like they are making calls to people who've been admitted to Yale. Guess that counts me out =[
-
my fears have been confirmed. alas, Yale is the school I'm referring to.
-
Thanks. This is probably the most informative remark I have read about this. a question. I received a call telling me that I have been recommended for admission to one of my top choices. I, like you, freaked out when they told me that there was this one last contingency of the graduate school making the final decision. I emailed my POI asking if I should be worried. His response was not very encouraging. He said that it is unpredictable What will happen. He noted that they could take all of the recommendations, a portion of them, or none of them, and that there was no way to tell. Could this have been him nearly trying to avoid saying anything with finality and certainty before it is official? Or is it actually possible that this particular school, which by the way is a top-tier institution, be the exception to the rule?

When will Yale send out its decisions! Every day feels like an eternity.
-
Yale has now made their recommendations for admission to the Graduate school. I get the impression, though, that the final decision by the Graduate school is not just a formality, and that their is a chance that a recommended applicant could get rejected.
-
Anyone know of someone being admitted to the UVA TEC program?
-
Great advice!

So this is hear-say, and perhaps fuzzylogician can correct me if I am passing false information (fuzzylogician was very helpful in answering this very question). From what I've heard, some schools take the department's recommendation, and then ranks the applicants. Then, the graduate school determines how many students will be admitted to the department in total. If that total number is outnumbered by the recommended applicants, then they will go down the ranking list. For example, if the dept recommends 10 applicants, but the graduate school determines 8 people will be admitted for that dept, then applicants ranked 9 and 10 will be dropped. This doesn't directly respond to your specific concern, but I thought it relevant to post. Hoping I'm wrong, because I too have been recommended or admission
