I did too! In fact, I was rejected from every program to which I applied! So, guess it's time to open up that bakery I've been hesitant about doing! Cheers! -

Okay. Let's hope for this week! -
Hey there! Has anyone applied to the Learning Sciences Ph.D. program? Any word yet? I know there was a post about Northwestern a few weeks ago, but I think that the person posting was focused on Computer Sciences AND Learning Sciences rather than just Learning Sciences. Let me know. Thanks in advance!

University of Michigan Joint Program English and Education Ph.D.

You really never know who they are looking for and what kind of fit someone can be in a department. I'd say it's fair game for everyone! Good luck to you! I hope we both get in. -
I emailed UM today, and, apparently, admission decisions are being sent out late next week! I hope I've got a shot at getting in! Here are my stats: Undergrad (UCLA English BA) GPA: 3.0 Masters (DePaul University Writing and Publishing): 3.5 3 strong LORs from former colleagues and the Department Head where I'm currently teaching I've taught writing courses at various schools in Chicago (DePaul University and the City Colleges of Chicago), was involved in the Civic Engagement Program at University of Chicago, currently teach at Grand Rapids Community College (English courses) and have also worked in a summer program at Calvin College (as a Rhetoric Coach), helped open a writing center while in Chicago while working at as a consultant there, helped develop various standardized tests and wrote study manuals for the Chicago Fire Department with an educational consulting company, did various projects at each school I've worked for to raise student retention rates and etc., and I've done tutoring outside of everything. Good luck to everyone applying to this program and all the other various programs! This is a stressful time of year for us all, and I'm glad I can vent/open up in this forum.

I applied for this program as well and haven't heard anything. Did you apply for the joint program of Computer Science and Learning Sciences or the Learning Sciences Ph.D.? I'm quite surprised to see that they're already inviting for interviews. Just hold out hope! Also, looking at the results page from years prior, it looks as if some were accepted as late as March. I'd say anything goes at this point. Be positive and know you put in your best effort.

Has anyone applied to this program? Any word? I'm anxiously awaiting my results over here!
-
I think you're right. I don't want to appear to over eager and bother the department. And yes, I've looked at the results page, and there's nothing. Hopefully, I'll know any day now!

I've applied to Michigan State University to their CITE program and have heard nothing! I emailed them a week ago as to when their admissions decisions would be out and still nothing! Do you all think it would be too pushy to call them and ask if they had any idea when they'd be making their announcements? I'm eager (just as everyone else is I'm sure), and I keep checking the results search, and there's nothing. What do you guys think? Is it too pushy to call them and ask? Thank you in advance!

Starting a PhD Program Long after Undergrad
libbyt replied to 2017 Applicant's topic in Education Forums
For graduate programs, I've always thought anything goes when it comes to age. To me, it smarter to attend graduate school with a few years of "real world" experience under your belt because you'd be a bringing new, diverse perspective to the department. I've known people to go straight from undergrad to graduate school, but most people I came across took time in between. I waited a few years after undergrad to apply for my Master's, and I was really glad I did. I felt that I was at an advantage because I was a bit older than some of the students in the program and had experience with the topics in my classes. Also, I was much more responsible and self-aware. After my Master's, I went into teaching higher education in Chicago, and five years later, I'm applying for my Ph.D. in education. I think there may be more people in your same boat than what you might think! -
I've applied to Michigan State University's Curriculum, Instruction, and Teacher Education (CITE) Ph.D. program for Fall 2017. Anyone hear word from them? I'm eagerly awaiting a decision as I'm sure most of us on here are.
-
Thank you! I'll let you know what they say when I hear back from them!

Originally, I wanted to apply for FALL 2017 (like my other apps), but that wasn't available when I went to apply to Penn. Anyway, I went ahead and contacted them. I'm waiting to hear back. Thanks for your help!

Hello! While I'm sure most of all of you are waiting on admissions letters for Fall of 2017, I've recently applied for Fall of 2018 to the Teaching, Learning, and Teacher Education Ph.D. program. Do you think applying this early will help my chances? Also, with rolling admissions, do you think I'll hear back in the 4-8 weeks or later? I've been nervously sitting here for the last two weeks wondering and waiting. Thanks in advance!
