  1. I applied around late November and after several emails to Andrea, I was initially told that I was waitlisted. (That was 2 weeks ago).

Last week, I had to email them again for them to tell me a decision was made and I was rejected, even though I was also in a hurry since I am a full-time employee.

I surprised at how unprofessional they are honestly, all that wait for nothing. I also have 2 years of ICT consulting experience and a 3.5 GPA with extra courses in information systems.

However, I did get my acceptance from McGill yesterday. So that's good

    Hi guys,

Do you guys know if the admission to the UXD concentration is competitive? Hola if you applied/are accepted to the UXD concentration.

    Thanks,

    Taufiq

    Hey Taufiq,

I don't think your admission to the iSchool is based on the concentration you're applying to. Maybe each concentration has a student quota though, not sure. Where are you from btw

Anyone else here still waiting it out for a decision? I'm getting so anxious about it! I'm just hoping it means that if they wanted to reject me they would have by now.

I applied back in November, still waiting. And you're right, if you were rejected you would have been told so. Did you email Andrea asking about the status of your application?

From my understanding, this isn't a thing for GradHouse. The handbook says it's preferred that you don't have guests for over 3 consecutive nights or over 9 days within a given month, but it is not a hard and fast rule (http://gradhouse.utoronto.ca/residents/policies/, pg. 22). Roughly speaking, try keep your over night shenanigans to the weekend. Also, I don't remember there being any sign-in policy for guests when I was around there last year with some people. It isn't designed for undergrads, so they kind of assume that you are responsible.

    EDIT:

Oh, and the $55/85 guest rooms are just so that if your mom wants to stay in the building but you don't want to sleep with her. I mean, i don't know, I don't judge.

Hey, so I'm guessing you're a current student at the iSchool? To my understanding, you moved out of the Grad House since last year?

@Nick.lb My problem with the gradhouse is that its incredibly restrictive. I know they are liable for anything that happens, but if Im paying almost 1000$ I want to be able to have people over whenever I want, and my boyfriend for overnight, instead of having to register them and have them in a different room.

@M.gooseberry A 20 minute walk in the winter in Toronto isn't too bad, they clear the streets pretty quickly, but walking in the winter in Canada in general is just something that everyone has to deal with :P

It's pretty easy to find rooms in apartments for around 800-900. The Kensington Market is a great place to look, as well as around Little Italy and Korea Town. The transit system may not always run on time in Toronto, but its pretty damn good.

I agree on-campus housing can get annoying, especially since you can only have overnight visitors 3 nights per month (according to their website). Not sure about their policy about having friends over, but I think you can get away with stuff if you're room mates are chill. Never heard about having to register people when they come over...

@Nick.lb Downtown, toronto is ridiculously expensive. The residences affiliated with toronto - parkside and campusone are really great but around 1400$-1600$ per month. There are plenty of condos and semi-furnished/furnished apartment about 20 mins walk to campus for around 700-900$ .

As frannyt and spzr mentioned earlier, if we look for an apartment further away and not just in downtown, we might be able to find a good deal.

A 20min walk isn't that bad, but I agree finding an appt a bit farther would definitely be more affordable. A standard room in the gradhouse is around $950 which is pretty good since the gym is a walk away and you're essentially in downtown. I don't currently live in Canada so I thought living on campus for a semester would be a good choice

@Spzr @Taylorski @Supratim Chakraborty Oh I guess it IS too early to start for me then. I'd be moving to Toronto in August. Should probably start house-hunting some time in June? I was just worried cause alot of residences around UofT have already started filling up pretty quickly.

I applied to the UofT gradhouse and offers should be sent out around June. So in case I don't get an offer, i'd also be interested in looking for an appt. Do you know what the average rent is around campus?

Hi everyone!!! I just got the offer email from the ischool!!! I am going for the UXD concentration and I'm from China. Do we have a fb group or something?

Congrats! I'm so jealous right now. When did you submit your application?

  9. Does anyone know if people have started receiving rejection emails? There's only one person who posted that they got a rejection via mail... People are probably just not too motivated to post their rejections.

Also, does anyone know in what stage the admissions dept is, it seems like they stopped sending out acceptances - i'll probably email them and follow up.

Does anyone know how are the UofT's dorm rooms? And when should I ideally start applying for it ? I am considering staying on campus in the first semester, and then probably shift in an apartment the next sem.

You can check out the dorm rooms for graduates on the UofT Grad House page, I personally applied. However, applications opened up on Feb 1 and applications are considered on a first come first served basis.

are you an international student or canadian?? I was given four weeks from the date accepted (March 10th). I doubt they've reached full capacity; they might just be waiting to see how many more they can accept seeing as they are still taking applications? Who knows... hopefully you get a response soon!!

I'm actually a Canadian citizen but studied abroad, which probably categorizes me as an international student. If they are waiting, I guess I'll know starting April. I too applied to the McGill program not too long ago, but I'm leaning towards UofT

  12. @frannyt Thanks for replying! I contacted her on Tuesday and she got back to me on the same day. She also said my application was still being reviewed, which I also think means they haven't had a look at it yet since she said the same thing when I emailed her on March 3rd. When do applicants need to officially accept their offers? Carol also mentioned the "rolling basis" of acceptances so I really do hope they haven't reached their capacity for Fall 2017, which I think is unlikely since the April 31 deadline is still a month away.
