  1. Dear All, I wanted to know about the University of Buffalo. I am interested in masters in financial economics course. The course at Buffalo is reasonably priced and from what I hear the cost of living there is lower comparatively. Kindly tell me more about this university. Although I will pursue a doctoral program after my masters, I am tight on funding my tuition. I need a school which will give a good content program for masters but at the same time provides an inexpensive program. Will doing a masters from Buffalo while maintaining a good GPA, add to my profile for entry into a doctoral program with top business schools? Anyone know the average accepted GRE score at Buffalo, especially quant score? Any other suggestions for masters in economics with financial economics as a track. Regards, Jack Silverz

    IMBA

Dear All, My present job at an IT firm is more a corner desk job solving change requests. The money is good and a lotta exercise for my brain but kinda dull for an outdoor guy like me. I am more a field action guy, not a think tank. I want to do an MBA but want to pursue a course that keeps me on the move, gives me a feeling that I am making a difference working with a team, not a virtual one like in my current job but a colocated team, gives me an opportunity to travel, to meet ppl, cultures. Thats y I want to know about the international business option in MBA. Cud any1 tell me what this course is like? Where do such graduates reach after their MBA in international business? I was going through The Moore School of Business, University of Carolina, their IMBA. Any opinions on that course? Which universities offer the top masters courses in international business? Regards, Jack Silverz
  3. Thanks for the input Lily and Strong Flat white. Meeting in person with the professors in the USA would not be possible for me since I am all the way in the east from India! But I'll try to catch them through emails or skype maybe. Atleast now I know where I should be heading now.
  4. Dear All, Is there any link where I can find courses according to price range? I seek an MS in finance costing under $45500 whole tuition fees, the lesser the better. I know I wasn't born on a rainbow but I am looking for a school which provides scholarships as well. Regards, Jack Silverz
  5. Dear All, I have heard that applying to PhD programs has got a lot dependent on winning the confidence of one's future mentor, one's guide through your PhD. So is it necessary that I contact these professors and try to have a conversation with them a few months prior to application? If yes, how do get in touch? Because I once tried Lund university in Sweden but never got any replies from the professors whom I understand would have been too busy to answer. But the students were kind enough to guide me when I emailed them. Now I am trying programs in the USA? How is it done? Are there chat rooms? or by email? Or is there like a separate person for answering queries? Regards, Jack Silverz
  6. Dear All, In an application for a PhD in business administration from an American univerisity, is a post degree preferred to a post diploma? Or does the selection committee value the brand of the B school from where MBA is done? Because in India, where I plan to do my MBA, many post degree courses are offered by colleges that are less competitive than the top cream. Most of the top colleges here award post diplomas. So getting an admission in a post degree course would be that much easier. But on the other hand a few top branded post diploma courses offer 1 year courses which saves time. Since I am looking to go straight into PhD after my masters course, which kind would suit me? Regards, Jack Silverz
  7. Is that it? Wella, perks to education!!subsized loans!! I mean loans on my property didn't have that option!! Thanks for making things clear. Great help!
  8. Dear All, While I am trying to plan my future in a grad school in the USA, I still can't understand one thing. How do students opting for doctoral programs after completing their master's program pay back their educational loans taken for the master's program? What's is the plan there? Coz from what I find, doctoral programs' stipends aren't enough to handle a loan! Regards, Jack Silverz
  9. A school with great options. A dual course of 3 years which awards MBA and MA too!! And by what I got to read there are many options available to fund the program as well.Sounds Swell thank you, appreciate the input!!
  10. "I think it's really only worth it to pay for a Master's program if it's a terminal degree, like the MLIS, that is needed in order to obtain employment in a certain field. If you're using it as a way to get into a PhD program, it might not be the best idea."...........Excuse me, could you elaborate on that statement. This is exactly the dilemma I am in now. I have to do a masters program to get into the doctoral program I hope for but my current finances doesn't give me an option that doesn't include a huge loan to cover the funding. And I was searching for some advise on ways to being able to pursue Doctoral programs right after doing masters and being able to begin paying EMIs of the loan after completion of the Doctoral programs. Have you heard of such loan options, Mares?
  11. Dear All, I intially decided to pursue a full time MBA from a Grad school considering my corporate work background. But I would like to work on Developmental Aid projects after completing my future Doctoral program. I was going through some masters programs in Developmental studies and most require a bachelors in sociology. Are there masters programs on developmental studies or Developmental management which would consider my software experience(5 years in SAP) and Computer engineering Bachelors degree? I also hold an MBA from an online masters program (distance course). My feeling for contribution towards development studies comes from my weekend commitments to community service and that I was born and brought up in an under-developed community. I looked at the LUMID programme in Sweden but unfortunately with tuition fees being introduced for the first time from 2011 and part-time jobs while attending the program to cover daily expenses being a bleak possibility for people who arent fluent in Swedish, that lovely program in Sweden doesn't seem financially feasible for me. I would already be funding my masters via an educational loan. Are there such masters programs on Developmental studies in the USA? From what I hear daily expenses during the masters program can be better handled here. Regards, Jack Silverz
  12. Dear All, I hope to enroll myself for a doctoral program in business administration(DBA) in the USA. I am not a citizen of USA.Most doctoral programs have no tuition fees. But I wish to attain a masters before going for a DBA program. With my current financial status I have no option but to take an educational loan to fund my masters. What I wanted to know is 1. Are there loan options where I could begin paying my EMIs of my masters course fee debt after I complete my PhD or DBA? Or would I be required to first pay my dues and only then enroll for a PhD or DBA? 2. Does it help my funding problems if I choose a doctoral program in the same school as my masters? Regards, Jack Silverz
