  1. I am currently an alternate for the full grant to Germany and I a strange letter was mailed to my permanent address today... This letter was from the German Fulbright panel in Bonn (instead of the IIE, where the notification letters were sent from) and basically reiterated my alternate status, however ending the letter with a request for response by the 30th of April as to whether or not I am still interested in the Fulbright full grant. I find this strange only because, as stated in the original alternate letter from the IIE, alternates should only receive additional notice if they have been moved up to principal status. Unfortunately, I am not living at my permanent address, so I do not have the original letter and its exact language in front of me, but I am curious if any other full grant alternates, for Germany or any other country, have received a secondary letter like this and if anyone could lend some insight. Thank you!
  2. That's an interesting question...I'm also an alternate (for Germany) and I also have that AL-1 on the bottom left of my letter, but I didn't pay any attention to it before. Do any other alternates have this marker, a different marker or know anything about it?
  3. Congratulations, Ben! I'm an alternate for Germany and the continual wait is terrible...it's good to know that there are chances of acceptance. How did they notify you?
  4. I know, to have to wait even further is a bit painful, but it's great that we're still possible candidates. I'm an architect and proposed an architectural installation/symposium and research project in affiliation with the UdK in Berlin. I just found out last week that I got the DAAD Graduate Study Scholarship for Artists and Musicians (I'm assuming that you applied for that one as well), so I'm happy to know that I will definitely be in Germany next year. I guess that the acceptance packets are still being sent out. Don't lose hope!
  5. Hi anon, I'm in the same boat as you, also applied for a full grant to Germany and also found out that I've been named an alternate. I'm not certain about the probability of our getting the grant, however, a good friend of mine was named an alternate for Japan a few years ago and was awarded the full grant after additional funding became available. Like the Japanese grant pool, the German endowment is pretty large and I am hoping that they will be able to procure additional funding. I can't say that I'm surprised about my alternate status...my German skills are intermediate at best...but I'm just trying to stay positive. Did you apply for any other fellowships, from the DAAD, for instance?
  6. Such good news! Ich gratuliere dir! I got a response too, but I was named an alternate, still have to wait around for a bit. Did you also apply for DAAD grant?
  7. I had the same question...results seem to be sent to your permanent address (I was luckily visiting my parents' house this weekend). Good luck!
