i just got an acceptance from harvard "seas" on 4/5/07. i'd applied to the ee phd program. didn't qualify, according to the prof. got accepted into s.m. in cs. still good since i want to study vlsi and comp arch for which it doesn't seem to matter whether i'm ee or cs. just that now i have to reapply for phd when i'm done with the s.m. not perfect, but still very good for me! ...i think! :?

i just finally got an acceptance (4/5/07). applied to ee phd but didn't qualify for it, according to the prof. instead i got accepted for s.m. in cs. it's still good for me since i want to study vlsi and comp arch and for that it seems it doesn't matter whether i get into cs or ee.

purplebird, i talked to harvard yesterday. here's the deal: they have only 20 faculty members for EECS. so, very few students' goals actually match up with the faculty's research - that is, for those applications that qualify the initial reviews by the admission comm in the first place (and fair to say that if each faculty member is allowed to pick 2 new students, that's only 40 spots in all).. that being said, they already sent out acceptances to students that they absolutely want. sounded like those were the phd admits. the rest of our applications are still being reviewed. but if you'd applied for phd and you wouldn't be happy with an acceptance to just the ms program, then you might want to call them and chat. it sounded to me that at this point they may only be deciding on ms admits - at least it seemed to be the case for my application.

congratulations arlutin!
-
no notice from mit for me either. as for cornell, i got that response only after i wrote to them.
-
i just got an email from cornell that (1) i'm not rejected, and, (2) i'm not accepted either - at least not yet. and then, something about receiving decision anytime between now and apr 15.
-
did they tell you why they rejected? do they give reasons about what gets an application rejected?
-
arlutin, when you called the office, were they able to tell you anything concrete about your case?
-
lifegoeson, i bet that acceptance from CMU is looking like gold right about now!
-
no acceptances from anywhere at all for me. and no rejections. is it naive to still think "no rejections" is a good thing..
-
congratulations, lifegoeson!
-
nope not a word from any of the schools yet. cube?
-
arlutin, yea i did apply for phd. in fact, when i talked to one of the professors, he said that i should apply for phd even though i still need masters. they would just make me get my masters first and then depending on the quals, i'll either be allowed to continue towards phd or not.. did you also apply straight for phd? did you hear from any other schools? i missed all the fellowship deadlines, so no such luck for me there this year. what about you?
-
sheesh! anxiety's taking a toll on typing... i meant bachelor's degree.
-
Is anybody here NOT already done/doing MS? Is anybody applying with only a bachelors degress so far?
-
wow and another acceptance just now - dated Feb 13th but added just now. whoever just added today's result for MIT EE Phd, if you're reading this post, please tell more how you got the acceptance. any insights for the rest of us?
-
who just posted an MIT EE result with a question for the comment? left notification empty? i'm guessing it wasn't one of us, but whoever it was, hopefully he/she'll find their way to this post and tell more about that result. personally, i'm discounting that result entry as bogus - at least for the time being.
-
josefine, what other websites do you know?
-
i'm afraid to call them. anyone else called today?
-
2 hours and counting... no word at my end.
-
 everytime i hit refresh one of us has already written sth. who's still got finger nails left... by the way, am i the only buffoon who's trying to get into harvard eecs?? i thought they're supposed to be pretty good - inventors of Mark I, yes?!!
-
actually, when i talked to the eecs office, they told me we would know results by the end of feb. and then when i talked to the professor i want to study under, he told me decisions are made centrally by the admissions committee, and check with the office in 2 weeks. that was mid feb. so it may just be that the torment won't end until feb 28. 2007's not a leap year. and of course, don't forget that the visits are mar 2-3. so...

veganjosh, congratulations on the acceptances. if you don't mind my asking, what are your stats: ugrad/grad school, gpa, gre, etc.
-
exp_jw, you should really keep your replies flowing... personally, i could use all the optimism i can get at this point! but we should also keep in mind though, if there were 3-4 acceptances on our forum - that means there's quite likely a ton of other acceptances outside our group. so we may not necessarily hear a whole lot more noise on this.
