ENFP-T "The Campaigner." I enjoy taking these but I think they are probably slightly better psychometric devices than the horoscope in the paper. They share the same vague could apply to anyone analysis for a start. My results are also rarely consistent from day to day. Some questions are also difficult for me to answer as I cannot imagine myself in the hypothetical situation the question asks me to envision. For example "Do I get lost walking in nature?" Um, I am not exactly the outdoorsy type. Do I get lost? You bet. But I am more likely to get lost in a library or even my own house. Also the note on this particular test not to go with middle answers tells me they have a problem with a lot of neutral answers which is an indication to me that the instrument is at fault - not the respondents.
My biggest issue is probably that Meyers Briggs makes a dichotomous distinction between feeling and thinking. What is the difference? How do you tell them apart?
Do y'all think these tests illuminate something about sociologist users here or no?

Hi,
I see that no one responded to you. My research interests are in gender, race, and class and labor markets. I also love classic theory. I read Styling Masculinity by K. Barber and loved it. I am a big fan of ethnographies.

I am putting together application packets. I don't feel very confident about my chances. My research interests are in gender, stratification, and labor markets. I am passionate about Marxist Theory and my favorite journal is Gender, Work, and Organization. I am not fussed about prestige of my program, but a good fit and funding is a must.
My short list is
- Ohio State
- Nebraska, Lincoln
- Florida State University
- Indiana, Bloomington
- North Carolina State
- Wisconsin, Madison (which seems incredibly unlikely...)
The good parts of my application:
- 3.68 overall GPA.
- GPA in my major is 3.86.
- department wide awards
- research experience
- Submitted manuscript as second author for a peer reviewed publication
- Scholarships
- Undergraduate Research grants
- Small Regional Conference Presentation
- Strong letters of recommendation leveraging faculty social networks
- Intern for department, and student worker for Women's and Gender Studies for two years
The weak parts of my application:
- Low GRE scores (151 verbal and 142 quant. Cannot afford to retake, still waiting on my analytic writing score)
- Public Commuter College - Low Prestige, small department, not known for sociology
- Older, non-traditional student. Schools may question if I am worth the investment.
I don't know if anyone will accept and fund me. I hope so. I read/lurk on these forums obsessively. I see everyone's outstanding GRE scores and high-prestige undergraduate degrees and it shakes my confidence a bit. I am sure you all will do well and be turning down a surfeit of offers this spring.

Knock me over with a feather!
I got an early admit to Nebraska in Lincoln and today I got a yes from Florida State as well! Looks like I will have to pick where to go when I was sure no one would admit me at all! Take heart, y'all.
