  1. Congrats @Monsieur Vénus!!
  2. lol @awhiterussian my faculty members were like "that's a lot of schools!" to me hahahaha. you beat me! But I totally feel you. This week went by with complete silence. Next week... ahhhh. Today my cousin heard from her ED II school for a BA; she is going to Bryn Mawr! Trying to live vicariously though that.
  3. @meliboeus congrats!!
  4. Haha, no. I was just citing Sartre, comme il faut. I wish I had all of my decisions. Thankfully school is keeping me somewhat busy!
  5. Rien. Existé.
  6. "Within" It could be tomorrow ?? Also @Michael Scarn I don't think my comments would apply to the master's program in French Studies in Paris. The instructors are probably v. different.
  7. @Carly Rae Jepsen When I was researching schools, particularly public schools like UCSB, many departments seemed to require that people become, say, California residents so that they were "priced" in-state for their tuition. I'd imagine that UNC would require you to become a NC resident by the second year. And yes, le silence. Ahh.
  8. Will today be the day? ?
  9. The silence... omg. I just want ONE final decision. Not like a wait list or interview or something.
  10. He is really old, so I suppose not. I suppose their Old French requirement will also disappear when he retires. Yale does offer a graduate program in medieval studies, so I'm sure they will try to keep the tradition alive by having someone in French.
  11. I think the best program depends on sub fields, tbh. Tulane and FSU are excellent for Francophone literature, for instance. UCLA, too, when they had Lionnet. For medievalists, I'd look at Yale. For modernists, Berkeley. But of course, if you want to be a dixneuviémiste, you should probably go to Princeton or Columbia. And I guess Johns Hopkins for 18th-century studies.
  12. California is it. I was very tempted to apply to UCSB just because it was in Santa Barbara lol.
  13. @Carly Rae Jepsen woooooooow!
  14. This is just a little ridiculous lol
  15. Y'all I must say this is probably the first time in grad admissions history that the French thread has gotten this big!!! #metasuccess
  16. @Carly Rae Jepsen yay congrats!!
  17. Well, I'm sure a recommendation letter from Françoise Lionnet would help! haha
  18. Wow, someone is getting serial acceptances everywhere! The same person who got all those interviews also got into UCLA!
  19. Haha, I should clarify: my advisor said that the objection of graduate schools would be my age, not hers. For me, I guess it made sense to apply now because I know I will come back to the same conclusion after taking a few years off: I want to go to graduate school to get a PhD in French.
  20. @madamoiselle I applied to ten schools, with a somewhat even split between masters programs and PhD programs. I am considering applying to two more, but probably not (one isn't due till February 15 so I can panic or relax given how things turn out in the next few weeks). I turned in two international applications as well. I have to take the DELF soon so I can postulate in French programs too, possibly. But yeah. It's a lot of programs. I have no idea why my advisor said that.
  21. Well, a few days after I applied, one school insisted that I send them a copy of my diploma, certified by the registrar. I was like ??? I'm a senior. And then the DGS wrote to me saying that I should turn it in once I graduate.
  22. I think the adcoms prefer students who have taken time off after undergrad. That was my faculty advisor's primary objection to my applying this year ("t'es trop jeune"), and why I am applying to several master's programs as well.
  23. They are taunting us. I am getting all these hints from this one school that I should get in, but I fear I am imposing my desires on what they write to me lol. Do any of you read Robbe-Grillet? The most frustratingly beautiful writer ever. The adcoms are basically like him.
  24. Omg @madamoiselle CONGRATULATIONS!!! Who do you hope to work with if you go to Berkeley? Debarati is so cool -- I reviewed part of her work for my courses, and I was blown away by the finesse of her writing! I envy you haha!
  25. Congratulations, @awhiterussian! Good luck with the interviews, and let us know how they go! I imagine you are also the admit to Penn and interviews to Michigan and Princeton.
