  1. My interview went well but I don't think I'll go to Mass...I got an email saying I was still in the running for ICP-Bard so *fingers crossed*
  2. @rama You do have a hard choice! I interviewed for the post-bacc at MassArt. I live in Boston presently but I don't think this city or the school is a good fit for me. The faculty and lecture series is quite impressive, but the chance to go to New York and drop anchor there for a while is once in a lifetime. Even when I asked at my MassArt interview what they liked about Boston, it was that there's a decent photo scene that's still close to NY. So...the best thing about Boston is the NY proximity I think the interdisciplinary opportunities class-wise are clearly better at MassArt, but then again the chair of the ICP MFA, Nayland Blake, is an interdisciplinary artist. So I don't see you being punished at ICP for branching out. I think it depends heavily on what you think about Boston as a city. Does it inspire you? Do you do work in-studio so that the city where you live doesn't matter as much? The MassArt scholarship is a huge advantage, but if you can squeeze good aid from ICP keep in mind that Boston is really not significantly cheaper or any more livable than New York.
  3. @rama: I got an email from ICP-Bard this past Friday saying that they would be sending out admissions decisions this week. I had an interview at MassArt last Wednesday, but it wasn't clear when they were going to be sending decisions....I'm hoping for ICP myself. Good luck to you!
  4. Which discipline are you going into? I just interviewed for the MassArt post-bacc in photo and I'd be happy to tell you about it.
  5. I like the questions you raised, rama. I don't know how to answer them because I'm not familiar with Yale but I do know that I would like to have more than 8 people in my MFA class. More intellectual diversity, more push and pull. More tensions to acknowledge and discuss as artists.
  6. I'm looking to stay under 700 as well if I'm going back to SF- I'll get in touch if I do end up attending. You should be able to find something in your price range, especially since we'll have studios so the rent is pretty much just for a place to sleep. Cheap rents are most plentiful on the west side of the city, in the Sunset and Ingleside neighborhoods, but you're looking at quiet neighborhoods and residential type places and the commute can be a drag. You should be able to find something within your price range anywhere though, it's just a matter of digging hard enough. Rent control and karma are major factors in this. Convenience-wise I would personally recommend the eastern part of the city but the whole Bay Area is so awesome that no matter where you live the weather is great, the people are nice, and you will be at home with millions of other artists and rad people.
  7. Congrats on your acceptance...I've been accepted for the photo post-bacc but I haven't decided where I'll be going. I lived in San Francisco last year. If you'll be depending on public transportation to get around, try utilizing the Bay Area public transit website, 511.org, as you're looking for places on Craigslist so you can see how long it will take for you to get to school. Looking for a place in Berkeley or Oakland that's close to BART will take you right into SF in no time, even faster than if you live in the outer parts of SF. If you can afford a couple of weeks in a weekly rate hotel, I would recommend grabbing a room in downtown SF around Union Square or Nob Hill and explore SF, Berkeley and Oakland to really get a feel for what neighborhood you like. There really is something for everyone but I don't know what your standard of living and budget details are so that's what I would recommend. If you offer more specifics, you'll definitely get more advice!
  8. I know I'm joining in a bit late in the game, but rest assured I've been lurking for a month I applied to MFA photo with an open mind for post-bac offers. Here's my list! Accepted: SFAI post-bac Rejected: SVA Still waiting: ICP-Bard MassArt (interview for post-bac pending) Congratulations everyone on your acceptances. Has anyone heard from ICP?? Post-bacs are cool and everything, but....
