  1. I don't think that anyone received funding offers with admittance, at least I haven't heard of any one getting any info yet. I'm curious as well since the only way I'd be able to afford the school is with some sort of assistantship. :P I also got an invite to the open house. I wonder if it's a good idea to go for funding offers and such

  2. I'd imagine that you do. Your GPA is competitive! And applying to more school's just going to increase your chances. I've been accepted to 1/4 schools so far (the rest haven't been posted) and just interviewed for another.

    Stats: GPA 3.92, GRE 164V 144Q 5.0AW

Other junk: Tutored grade school literacy for all four years, started tutoring for Spanish/ComDis classes this past year for my college, NSSLHA member and have held various positions (volunteer chair, secretary, and currently president), volunteer once a week in a mentoring program with middle school kids, and work over the summer as a summer camp counselor. In middle/high school and my first year of college I volunteered at a camp for kids with speech-language disorders which totaled about ~3,000 hours of volunteering over six years

@snoves I have no idea what they’re going to ask but it’s only 15 minutes so I doubt it’s too in depth?! I do know I was told in the past they have around 250 applicants and interview the top 100, so I’m already hopeful I might actually have a shot of getting in somewhere! Good luck!

Yeah, that's how I feel too :) I was just hoping to get more insight lol! I did hear from someone that they were more personal questions (rather than asking you to detail out situations and such) so we'll see. I'm not too sure what the point of a 15 minute interview is. :P Best of luck to you!

  4. Hey y'all,

Got an email today to sign up for a skype interview for WSU! It's next week and I'm excited to even get this far lol. Is there anyone who could tell me about the process? I'm not sure if they change it up every year or if it's usually the same, from what I've heard it's general interview questions (and the slots are only for 15 minutes) and nothing specifically speech-related but I'd like to be as prepared as possible!

    Thanks for any help!

This may be a dumb question but do we have to send FAFSA to schools before we are accepted? Or can they access it themselves?

You have to send it to them by selecting them to be sent to the schools when filing. You should be able to go back and edit your FAFSA after filing though if you want it send to other schools.

I am with you on that! I especially hate when schools use CSDCAS AND have their own application (for two different fees of course <_<), it's a complete waste. Cal State Apply sounds much better! By the way, ASU seems like a great program and Phoenix is such a great city, so congrats on getting in there!

Thank you! Their speech program is in Tempe but I've heard good things about that city too lol. I'm just happy to be in somewhere! :)

Ah, I see! Don't beat yourself up over it, I have been pretty frustrated with CSDCAS at times. It definitely does not make the application process easier.

I genuinely haaaate CSDCAS and I am SO glad that I at least have one acceptance so I'll never have to use it again lmao. I don't understand how they can charge $125 for the service and demand so much from you. Cal State Apply (which uses the same exact system) is much more forgiving and half the price. I actually forgot to put in a class and when I emailed the schools they basically told me not to sweat it, they just go by the transcripts. Granted that means that all the time you spent putting in your classwork is redundant , but at least they were forgiving!

I agree with the other commenter, call SJSU. I don't thin you wasted the money because I highly doubt this will cause them to throw away your application.

Quick question, what did you mean about letter grades? I entered in all of my grades as letter grades on CSDCAS because that is what is on my transcript. They verified my application with those grades too.

Best of luck and try not to worry too much! This situation can be remediated!

I would call SJSU. If the school has your transcripts through CSDCAS and their other portal (you had to submit official copies to two different places), then you should be fine, I would think. Call them and explain.

Thanks guys. I'll call them ASAP.

Basically my official transcripts used numeric grades (4.0, 3.7, etc.) instead of letter grades (A, A-, etc.) but I put my grades in using the letter system. It was a dumb mistake on my part

  9. Hey y'all,

Maybe a dumb question, but my anxiety has shot up to level 1,000 in the past ten minutes. I accidently entered my grades in wrong (I put in letter grades instead of numerical. GOD I love CSDCAS) and has my application "undelivered." I already fixed my mistakes and resubmitted it to CSDCAS, but the school I'm applying (SJSU) to had their application due date as Feb. 1st.

SJSU only requires that all documents be submitted and delivered to CSDCAS by the due date, not that the application be verified by that date. So should I not stress? Am I good? I just want to confirm I didn't waste $180 on TWO applications (which basically say the SAME SHIT but I digress) due to one little dumb mistake

Their first semester they lost 5 students. One left before classes started to attend another university, one supposedly left on her own, another 3 "failed" out. By failed, I mean one student submitted an assignment but uploaded the rubric. While the professor's syllabus states that the student had three days to upload the assignment and receive partial credit, the professor replied on the third day and informed the student that they received a zero for the assignment (which was a final project). That same student also received a poor grade on a final assignment for another class where the professor openly admitted to several other students that she didn't even read the students' papers. The 6th student withdrew the fall semester due to the program holding them back from attending placements and had them do their clinic at the university (which they even stated at orientation that this was not an option since they aren't fully accredited). They essentially set this student up for failure so they decided to leave before they could essentially kick her out. While they haven't lost more, almost half of those that are left are on academic probation.

How are they even still up for accreditation from ASHA?? I know grad programs have been put on probation for less...

Hey!! Do you know how ASU sends out answers? Did you get an email or did you have to check the portal? And do they do it a few applications at a time?? There's no update in my portal and I just want to know one way or another!

I first got it through their portal (it was posted around the 17th for me), but I also received an email last week that went to the email I used for my application :) they also sent a couple acceptance emails to my ASU student email!

For the literacy tutor and day camp positions, did you happen to run into those on a website or it's something you inquired at a local school? I am having major difficulties looking for an after school program via Indeed/Google. I would imagine I can't simply go up to any public school and ask if there are tutoring or after school programs available... although I am actually going to try that when I go into the school I shadow at next time. Do let me know, thank you for your response!

    @snoves

The literacy tutor job was through my school, they provide some job opening postings in the community through their job portal. The day camp position was through a local posting on my city's parks and recs site. I would highly suggest looking at your city's recreation site to see if they have any job openings--my city runs both a day camp during the summer and an afterschool program :)

  13. I currently work as a tutor for ComDis/Spanish classes for my college and as a literacy tutor at a grade school in an after school program. During the summers I usually work for the city at a day camp for children K-6th grade. I recently got accepted to a program, which maybe wasn't for my work experience, but I definitely think finding a position working with relevant populations can't hurt!

As a Psych major ABA therapy would probably be a great fit for you! I'm not sure about licensing but I would definitely continue to look into it. :) I would also suggest nanny positions, which would also most likely be able to work around your schedule.

Hope you find something that suits you!

Yeah, I think I should e-mail them too at this point! The deadline is Feb 1st, so I don't want to cut it any closer. On CSDCAS it just has one file upload and only lists the two specific prompts. Thanks for the advice :).

If it's just one file upload, they may want a personal statement that introduces your interests in the field AND that also answers the two prompts. I can totally see your confusion! I think emailing them will be your best bet! Hope they get back to you quickly! :)

  15. I'm not applying there so I'm not sure when the app is due, but I would email the department just in case. Always better to be safe than sorry!

Also usually on CSDCAS it gives you specfic places to submit the file(s). If there's three places to submit them that probably means they want a personal statement and each prompt.

Thanks for the advice.  I have an evening job I plan to keep part-time, but some of the programs warn not to work at all.  I feel like no matter what, I will have to take out substantial gradPlus loans though.  I don't see any other way :-/

i recently talked to some former grad studentst from Fresno State (which is one of those programs that states that you won't have any time to work), and almost all of them worked ~10-20 hours a week. Granted, that isn't a ton of hours, but it helps pay for rent/books/food. I think it's mostly just important to find a job that is willing to work with your schedule.
