That's me lol. I got a hefty school scholarship but I'm still quite a bit in the hole for how much the program costs (and flying to Japan). I might not have even accepted anyway because of the service requirement so! Better for those who really needed it ^^ Things really do happen for a reason though, I'm sure one of the other scholarships will be the right one for you

Wait. So has anyone gotten an email for the scholarship specifically saying they were rejected? I know it's probably too late to hope for anything but...

Even if they were sending by region I guess I'm screwed because I applied to Japan as well...

Well, that sure is something. Even if they say the second budget email is only spot-checking, I dunno why they would spot-check someone who they aren't intending to offer the scholarship. Better prepare myself to fork over the payment differential from my first scholarship, I suppose. I'm another scholarship applicant applying for Asia who didn't get the second email, if that helps anyone with the metrics.

Dang, I was just thinking about the budget email today. Turns out one of the scholarships I thought I would have to turn down will let me use it for the same program I put down for Boren (yay!). I was going to report having more aid, but since the deadline has passed and lowballing has bitten people in the butt, maybe it's a sign... I lost CLS in the first round though, so here's to hoping I and everyone in this thread make it!! Anyone know if there's a set number of summer STEM initiative people they pick out? I looked at the NSEP report to see a depressing 5 students on summer programs...hope that doesn't count against me!

@mrs12 just wanted to say thanks for all your great posting! i've been lurking on past years' threads and i found your insights really helpful (even though i've already finished applying haha)

Made an account just to nervously fret with a group of people -- seems like the earliest applicants have heard back about results is Jan 10 and the latest around Jan 16...hoping it's the former rather than the latter this year! I'm a first time applicant for Japanese and I'm running out of summers to study abroad... Crossing my fingers for everyone as we approach the acceptance period!
