  1. Which one do you want to go? UCSB is my top school though...
  2. The univ. confirmed that I am on the waitlist. They decide to torture me again.
  3. Did you get a phone call or get an email or message from the univ? Can we get an acceptance letter in April?
  4. Is there someone who is waiting for the decision of UCSB?
  5. Is there someone who gets the notification from Syracuse? If they send mail, not an email...
  6. He that would eat the fruit must climb the tree. From UCSB: The admissions committee will be making decisions by the end of this month.
  7. Is there someone who applied to UCSB or Syracuse? I think they are supposed to inform the result during this week...
  8. I am waiting on the decision of UCSB and Syracuse. Yes. I will be rejected. But Maybe...?
  9. Hooray! A rejection letter from USC! 3 schools are left in this cycle.
  10. I think USC makes their decision on next Monday... HAHAHA.
  11. I got an acceptance letter from the Univ. of South Carolina- Yes, it's not USC. However, there is no funding notification and moreover, the final decision for funding will be made by April 1. The thing is, this is the exact date when they want to decide their offer! If I accept this offer. I just have to look forward to giving money!. What the heck...
  12. Yesterday. So I assumed that USC does not send an letter on Monday.
  13. I sent an email to the department and they say Our applications are currently under review and you should expect to receive notification in about a week. What a generic one
  14. At this time, emailing to POI about my interests to your program may work...? I already sent "an" email before the application deadline to my POI and showing my current passion may...may help me to some degree...
  15. I got the rejection letter from AU. Sigh...
  16. I just want to enjoy the Olympic opening ceremony, not my applied school. Whoo.... today I also cannot sleep.
  17. It sounds like the Jigsaw's saying. OK. In a nutshell, you want to question that how getting into grad school, which has many coincidental areas, can prove my abilities. Am I right? Both of us agreed with the fact that there are so many contingencies in getting into grad school. And also, we know that we cannot control them. However, we both have different ideas about "fatalism" I think. I just excluded them and leave areas of my abilities since no one cannot control them. Yes. Someone may be luckier than me this year. However, if they cannot be controlled or we can foresee the impact of them, I just want to focus on my controlled areas. we can talk about the proportion of contingencies but I think this question is another one to talk later. Based on this, "getting into the grad school" is not one situation, but kinda "accumulated situations." Why? Because being a Ph.D. student is a prerequisite for my success, surviving at this jungle. I have studied for this objective. If so, getting into the grad school can deserve to be the most important event and is the result of my accumulated behaviors. I do not satisfy this answer since I think there are more things to discuss with. By the way, why two USCs do not release their results...?
  18. I think some of them are not my abilities, but kinda "luck" or a "coincidence." Can we control LOR writers' abilities? How about a budget or a quota of prospective students? Although they can be Z variables, we cannot prove the causal mechanism with them. If so, I just recognize them as fatalism. If I start to consider them, my mentality is already broken and this criterion is my psychological line lol. A result of chance in the field of science may be contradictory, but maybe the scientific result of my accidental behaviors
  19. I regard this application cycle as the verification of my abilities. So, the rejection hurts me. I know this pressure do not help my mentality, but pressure may lead development.
  20. I am the same one as all of you. MSU and UA are already ended... Expectancy and hope are gone.
  21. Maybe faculty members are on vacation . It is taking too much time to consider applications.
  22. Are there anyone who applied to USC or UCSB? No news so far.
  23. Thank gosh it's monday~ My number one day~
