I am curious.. did your acceptance come on a Friday or middle of the week?
I think it came on a Monday? I'm not sure

Sorry for your rejection at Carleton, but I'm super glad you got in where you wanted to! My status stills shows 'Reccomended for Assessment' and I've emailed the grad advisor without a response yesterday, so I guess I'll have to wait till next week for a response.
But anyway, I'm glad you got accepted!
After I got recommended for assessment, it took a long time for me to receive the official offer. This was during the strike. But since the strike ended, it should be faster now
Congrats Nat!!!
I don't think requesting money back is a thing, because it went through OUAC. I tried with a different school but they won't give me the refund.

I got my offer from Carleton (from the Grad Supervisor) and then an official offer on the system. The strike slows the process down but that doesn't mean offers haven't been sent out.
-
Flip a coin. When it's falling down you will find yourself wishing for a side. And that's the one you should go with.
But if I was in your shoes, I'm going with A.

I am deciding between a few offers and without going into details, I just want to ask about the advantages and disadvantages of going to a PhD program where my cohort would be one of the first (not the literal first though!). Nobody has graduated with a PhD from this program yet.
Otherwise I am in love with the program. Just want to make sure I consider all the pros and cons that I might not have thought of yet.
This is in the Humanities/Social Sciences field, if that matters.

So I am getting funding in both, but better supervisor in Queens Uni (very appropriate for the kind of work I want to do- film/transgender studies) So should I choose four years of good supervision over the prestige of Cambridge? (tis for PhD in Gender Studies through a CultStudies lens)
What's the program at Queen's? Gender Studies or Cultural Studies?
Are you Canadian, British, or international? Do you have plans for immigration?
What's the funding like?
Without knowing further details, all I can say is: most people, when hearing about Cambridge and Queen's, will very likely choose Cambridge for the prestige. It's almost common sense. However, you had to ask the question, so it's clear that your heart isn't 100% for Cambridge, in which case I might think Queen's is a better fit for you.
That being said, who's the supervisor at Cambridge? Is there more than one person who can support you? CUST at Queen's allows you a committee of three- do you have 3 people you want to work with?

Hey guys,
I’m seriously tired of waiting. I already emailed Ryerson on the 1st of March and they gave me a vague waiting time between March and April. I don’t know if I should email them again to confirm. I’m just so anxious. I’m an international student by the way for the master of journalism. HELP ME!!!!!
I wouldn't email them again. Perhaps email them again after the first week of April.

Hey guys! To everyone waiting still, I would strongly recommend emailing Andrea if you're tight for time! She's super helpful and pretty willing to help however she can!
Yes! Second this. Andrea is so helpful and she always replies very promptly

Did anyone hear from the PhD program yet?
-
The admin staff at Carleton are on strike and I've been told this will cause some delay in sending out offers
Thank you T-Boy, I got accepted last week (Communication) and my status changed to Reviewed by the School of Graduate Studies (or something).

Do you know if they are accepting the offer for Social and Political Thought or rejecting? I am wait listed and hoping to get a spot in the program.
They are trying to choose between 2 schools. Sorry this isn’t really answering your question
I’m also wait listed for a different program so I know how you feel

Anybody accepted to York University Social and Political Thought PhD? I'm crossing my fingers that I can get off the wait list as it's my first choice program for next year.
I don’t know them personally but I saw someone on Facebook saying they got accepted.

Not the same program as yours but I got accepted to Carleton as an international student.

Hi all. I just received an offer with funding (in the form of a research assistantship) from School X this morning. The letter explicitly stated if I do not respond to this letter by March 14 the offer will expire. Right now, I have funding offers from this school and another school. I am interested in both schools, however, neither of them are my top choices.
I am in a dilemma since I am still waiting to hear from 6 other schools. Should I contact School X and (tactfully) ask for more time? I would like to have all the information possible to make an informed decision.
Thank you!
Yes, it is common to politely request an extension. You don't have anything to lose by asking

McMaster accepted me on Feb 14th. Hope you hear back soon!
I was wondering what's your deadline to accept their offer?

Oh, I didn't know that; I was sure they haven't even looked at my application yet. I applied for their MA program in 2016 and ended up rejecting their offer, but now I don't remember if my status ever changed on the system during the application process.
And congrats on your acceptance!
Perhaps. I just wish the process was quicker!
There's also a strike going on at Carleton so the whole process of sending out offers and stuff is also delayed
-
I got an offer to a very exciting program but I am still waiting to hear about funding (should be some time this week) and I'm just wrecked with anxiety that the funding package will not be enough for me to go

Same here. I applied in mid-January (PhD in Communication) and heard nothing from them. Although some domestic students have already been accepted, my application status is still "Preliminary review required", meaning they still haven't even started reviewing my application just because I'm an international student.
I don't think they actually update the status on the system. I was offered admission via email first but my status on Carleton Central still said "preliminary review required" until they sent out an official (formal) offer - hope that makes you feel a bit better!
(To be clear, this is for the PhD in Communication. I also applied to another program at Carleton last cycle and got accepted, and my status on Carleton Central was updated frequently)

So I got a reply. He said that the committee hasn't made all of their decisions yet and my application is still being reviewed, but they're meeting again this Thursday. So if they make a decision on your application this Thursday those will be communicated either Friday or early next week. (I'm guessing in February they sent out offers to the clear candidates and now they're going back to sort through the ones they were unsure of, or maybe they just decide on applications as they go and we're just further down the list. My last name is towards the end of the alphabet lol, who knows)
So definitely still hope!
I don't even know anyone who already got accepted aside from the one person on the Result page lol Thank you very much for the update! At least there's now a timeline to look forward to

Thanks! That's literally the thing that I have been tossing around. Whether or not I will still get in, or if they will think that I don't know what I want because I went back for a Master's degree.
Going back for a Master's degree from Harvard is always a good idea.

Speaking of being awful at numbers, I'm from the west where one course is 3 credits, not 0.5, I'm trying to do the tuition calculator to understand how much tuition is for the two years (I'm actually shocked this didnt come in the formal letter) Does anyone have the figures on this? I think i had it as 4 courses a semester, times four semesters, equalling 16,000 but i really dont know if thats right.
It's not the "east" thing... It's definitely a Carleton thing! Many other schools in Ontario have 3.0 credit courses too lol
University of Toronto or McGill?

Agree with high_hopes about rent, but also if you do not speak French well, your social life in Montreal might not be limited. Day to day activities are fine, but it might be awkward to be in a group of friends who prefer to talk to each other in French.
