  1. I got into Cornell, too! Full funding as well! I’m so excited, this is my first acceptance!
  2. @n.m.m. Don’t worry, Skype wouldn’t even work properly for me, so we had to do the entire interview by phone :|
  3. Ahhhh that must be so stressful for both of you! I’ll keep my fingers crossed for you. Either way, since they told me they’d be making decisions in two days, hopefully we’ll know soon and be put out of this waiting misery.
  4. Did you get an email saying you were shortlisted to Columbia and already interview? I interviewed today and there was definitely no mention of a follow-up interview.
  5. Tbh most of the interview was a blur, but I remember two of the questions One of them was along the lines of “I noticed you’ve published a lot, do you plan to continue that in grad school, especially in terms of feminism?” and the other was “Can you explain your interests a bit more, studying the 18th century and postcolonial lit seems a bit paradoxical?” By the way, congrats on the Iowa acceptance!
  6. I don’t think it was too bad, they asked a couple difficult questions but I couldn’t tell if the resulting nods from the professors were approvals or nods for the sake of nodding.
  7. @HomewardBound Had my Penn State interview and they said they’d make a decision in three weeks D:
  8. Two weeks?!? Your interview wasn’t even that far from mine. Now I’m really hoping it’s two days.
  9. That's what Pierre Force told me right before we hung up, unfortunately. I'm so nerve-wracked. I'm not going to be able to function properly for the next two days. Going to be checking my phone constantly. Guess we'll be floating in the anxiety boat.
  10. Had my Columbia interview, not sure how it went (I panicked a bit) but @awhiterussian they said they're hoping to make decisions in the next two days
  11. Not acceptance news, but UConn said they’d pay my application fee for me after reading my dossier, so I assume that’s one step closer to good news later on down the road from them.
  12. Dang. That’s a good investment, though. The thought of all those fees terrifies me mostly because I’m AmeriCorps and earn next-to-nothing.
  13. 17?! Did you have to pay all those application fees?
  14. I’m sure you did fine! The committees know we’re nervous. I’m pretty socially awkward and I have my Penn State interview on Monday.
  15. @awhiterussian Congrats! I’m so happy to hear that your Columbia interview went well. I’m so nervous about mine!
  16. @Carly Rae Jepsen That's amazing! Congrats! Ha, that was me with the application fees. A good portion of schools waive fees for AmeriCorps, so I figured, why not?
  17. @madamoiselle Yes, I’m all about that intersectional feminism! Looking to go into 18th century lit and/or post colonial lit.
  18. @madamoiselle Thanks! I’m really excited about their dual French/Women’s Studies PhD program!
  19. Penn State invited me to interview! I’m actually surprised because one of my professors never turned in her recommendation, according to the website.
  20. @madamoiselle Yeah, we're such a tiny field haha. In retrospect, I find it hilarious that he was a new professor, had only known me for two months, and wanted me to go to grad school so badly. That's when you know French is a good field to go into! @awhiterussian I'm so jealous! La Réunion was my first choice, but then I took one look at the airplane ticket prices and sadly crossed it off my list. @Carly Rae Jepsen That's exactly how I feel about going to school again--I miss it so much and want to start studying again. And I need those notifications too, even if they're rejections. At this point, I just want to know.
  21. @madamoiselle Laon's cathedral is pretty much the only remarkable thing about the town, ha. I kid, mostly, but the town was so dull. I only survived because of a few kind colleagues, the other three assistants, and the ~1.5 hour train ride to Paris. I'm glad that you're enjoying your experience so much, though! @frenchlover That's interesting, I've never heard that before! Everyone I know who went on to grad school did so right after undergrad. One of my closest French professors practically started begging me to get a PhD during the fall of senior year, but at that point, I actually had no idea whether or not I wanted to go to grad school.
  22. @madamoiselle Phew, that makes me feel less old! I was in Amiens, in this tiny town called Laon. I probably would have renewed for a second year, but then life happened. I'm happy with AmeriCorps right now, though. What grade levels are you teaching in TAPIF? I worked at two different high schools. Thanks, congrats on that Berkeley acceptance!
  23. Salut! I'm showing up late, but I needed to find Francophiles who are also suffering through the waiting game right now. I applied to Columbia, Cornell, Louisiana State, UMich, Penn State, UConn, and UVA. I feel like I'm a bit of an oddball, since this is my second gap year. Last year I did TAPIF, and I'm doing AmeriCorps right now. But I must be doing something right; I got an interview with Columbia! It's the first school I've heard back from, and I'm so nervous about that interview.
