Wow!  The ASU climb makes sense to me.  They’ve gained a great reputation since the last US News rankings.  I strongly considered applying there.

I did get those acceptances.  I’m also considering sociology programs at University of Chicago and Berkeley.

Congratulations! I don't know anyone (myself included, haha) who got accepted into Maryland. Good job!!! Sounds like you have some great options to choose from. Are you leaning toward a specific one at this point?

Hey Anon thanks for that info, im still waiting on my student login but  I will get that in the next day or two I believe. I've talked to Diana about some stuff but not housing. I will definitely be in touch with her though!

Awesome. Well, good luck with your search ?

    That’s great! Congratulations!

I didn’t notice any dramatic changes in the rankings looking at the schools I’m interested in.  But that may be a limited perspective.  American is down two, Irvine is up two, and Maryland stayed the same.

    Were there even any shockers?

A couple changed pretty drastically! ASU went from #12 to #5, and George Mason from #22 to #11! But those stood out to me because I applied to them :)

Were you accepted to the three that you mentioned?

  4. Congrats @Praying18Crim! I was accepted into their PhD program and, although I haven't officially decided yet, I'm 99.98% sure I'll be going there.

I believe they have a student housing portal online that helps to hook students up with decent apartments and whatnot... I'd check that out (you might only be able to access it once you have a school login ID though).

Also, when I was there for the visiting weekend, all of the students and faculty were very nice and stressed that they would be happy to help anyone with housing stuff. Have you been in touch with Diana Mancini? I'm sure she could point you in several good directions.

I know I’ve asked this already...but has anyone heard back from Maryland?! They said the last week in february and this has been a painfully long week already!

Hahaha I was just about to log in and reply to your previous comment, actually. I haven't heard anything yet ?

I'm hoping that since they said "last week in February" that means that the decisions will come out IN February (i.e. today!!!). If they were going to send them tomorrow or Friday they totally should describe it as "early March". Granted, I'm probably just reading wayyy too much into their choice of words because I feel like if I have to wait a minute longer I'm going to freak out.

Here's hopin' we hear back today, and both get in!

I got into Florida International's doctorate in international crime and justice program.  No funding, but I may have outside funding.  The decision from FIU came back so quick that it makes me feel like it wasn't very competitive at all.  I got rejected from FSU.  I only applied to one other school, and havent heard back from them yet.  The other school is a state school that I don't think anyone else has mentioned.  I have five years in real-world criminal justice experience, but that really does not seem to carry any weight whatsoever in grad applications.  I welcome any advice about FIU (Is it a good school?  Is the program any good?  Will I be able to teach criminal justice/criminology at other colleges with the degree?).  I am kind of thinking I should study and try to bring up my GRE scores, then apply to schools next round.

I know absolutely nothing about FIU or their program. However, I would not suggest accepting an un-funded offer, regardless of maybe having outside funding. I think you would be much better served waiting another year and improving all the areas of your application that you can (GRE scores, Statement of Purpose) and applying to more schools next year, ideally more than 3 if that is financially feasible for you.

I was turned down from both schools to which I applied last year, but applied to 7 this year and have received funded offers.

I hope you hear back from the third school and get accepted with funding!

Oh..I must have confused you. Sorry. I also got accepted to Albany.  I mean,  have you heard some negative things about Albany like Maryland? Or good things?

Oh! Yes, sorry, I was confused ? I have heard both good and bad things about Albany, but my knowledge is pretty limited. I heard only good things from a former student, and some bad from a former professor.

Did you hear anything about Albany? My top choices also are Albany and Cincinnati. Since I got master from Cincinnati, I know about Cincinnati. But, I have no idea about U of Albany.

I got accepted to Albany on January 8th. I'm surprised you haven't heard anything yet!

I’m waiting on Maryland yet too. That’s my last big one. The other two I’m waiting on are in-state social work schools and I’m feeling pretty confident with those. Objectively, Maryland is my top choice, but funding and research offers are a huge component for me. What are you thinking for your top choices?

My top choices have been Albany and Cincinnati. (I applied to 7 programs.) I heard some negative things about Maryland after applying (super competitive environment among students, fighting for funding, etc.) so that turned me off a bit, but who knows if that's even true or not.

Finally heard back from Cincinnati. I got in! What a relief. Letter said tuition waived, other funding decisions are pending for the next couple weeks. Very excited!

Congrats!!! How exciting. Is it your top choice? I heard back and got waitlisted. I'm just glad it's finally done. Now just waiting on Maryland...

This makes me feel better. I haven't gotten an email either. They did tell me they'll be able to tell me more about funding afterwards which is my big concern because they didn't sound overly optimistic.

Wait, they said they would tell you more about funding AFTER the visit? That seems weird especially since it sounds like the visit is at least a couple months away. My voicemail did not mention funding at all, or anything really, other than the fact I was accepted. Hoping something a little more detailed will come through this week...

There's nothing posted on mine so far, so maybe there's hope yet. Did you apply there too?

I did not apply there, I just constantly search the results page by "criminal justice" and "criminology" to check out all the decisions that are coming in and saw that this morning ?

Did you end up hearing anything from them?

So far I've heard from Temple, Albany, George Mason, and Rutgers... Still waiting on Cincinnati, ASU, and Maryland. Please, let it end!!!

I'm completely neurotic right now! I heard back from the University of Chicago (I applied to Social Work) and got in (woohoo!!) but ever since I got that decision I've been consumed with this! Has anyone heard anything from Maryland or Cincinnati or have any info on acceptance rates/number of people accepted to most programs? I know it's a long shot but I want to have some perspective on likelihood at this point, even if it's bad news.

Haha, isn't it so stupid how getting one acceptance makes you that much more frantic about hearing back from the other schools?! I had hoped it would have the opposite effect... Congrats on your acceptance!

I applied to Maryland and Cincinnati and have not heard anything from either school. I have a strong hunch Cincinnati will send out acceptances next week though.
