  1. I got accepted to FIU too. Im on the fence about the program. The school seems to be ok. The fact that they sent me an acceptance very quick, and I was not accepted anywhere else, is kind of worrisome. I feel like their acceptance is guaranteed, and if you're not meant to be there they will just take your money and you will end up failing out. Not that that would be my case. I would ask about funding, it can't hurt. Why do you say you are not looking for a paid doctoral program? Do you mean you are not looking to pay? Another thing I am considering is Michigan State's online program. Anyone want to give any feedback? I am looking to teach at the community college or state school level one day, as a side job. Would the doctorate I get from MSU to hang on the wall look any different than the one people attending the school get? Are the classes not the same?
  2. I got into Florida International's doctorate in international crime and justice program. No funding, but I may have outside funding. The decision from FIU came back so quick that it makes me feel like it wasn't very competitive at all. I got rejected from FSU. I only applied to one other school, and havent heard back from them yet. The other school is a state school that I don't think anyone else has mentioned. I have five years in real-world criminal justice experience, but that really does not seem to carry any weight whatsoever in grad applications. I welcome any advice about FIU (Is it a good school? Is the program any good? Will I be able to teach criminal justice/criminology at other colleges with the degree?). I am kind of thinking I should study and try to bring up my GRE scores, then apply to schools next round.
  3. So, they have accepted all the applicants they plan to admit to the program already?
  4. FSU (funding deadline passed, but admission for fall remains open until July), Florida International, and University of South Carolina.
  5. I recently made the decision to apply to schools for my doctorate, after having just finished my MS in criminal justice. I am applying to schools whose admission deadline has not yet passed. My GRE sores are weak. Grad and undergrad GPAs not strong, but grad gpa is above minimum for all schools. Grad admissions coordinator at one of my top schools seemed to be aggressively emailing to have me get my application materials in asap, to have me considered for funding. I am not sure if this is a good sign as to whether my application has a good chance, or just her doing her job. Also, I have five years+ working in probation/parole in a major city. I was wondering the weight of industry experience in admissions decisions; anyone have any idea?
