You know, I'm not sure if this thread is the best for emotional well-being. Well, my own emotional well being anyway.

One can recite their own stats and read others but still wont have any idea if they will get accepted or not. I've seen some extremely qualified candidates get waitlisted and some candidates who may not 'WOW' on paper get acceptance. I've given up trying to have any notion of what admissions want.

I hear ya, it can certainly be tough! I honestly I poured over these forums last year when I applied but it made it so much harder when I got rejections or waitlisted (and never got off the waitlist). I'd say keep applying and don't be discouraged. It's great that you're being mindful about your experience on here, it can be hard to look for advice or suggestions but then feel like it's unclear, because like you said a successful applicant can be so many different things. I re-applied this year and feel like there wasn't much difference in my application but was happy to be accepted. I think you're right to not stress about the details. Happy to help with any future applications should you need :)

Hello all, long time lurker here... I have been anxiously waiting for a response from York U. Since a few folks in this thread have suggested that the end of February was the ETA for advanced standing (1 year) MSW decisions, and today is the last day of February, I decided to check in with the department. The dept stated that folks should start receiving responses the week of March 5th (beginning next week) for advanced standing 1 year MSW. The week after that, (beginning March 12th) is when the 2 year folks should get some news. So basically, we just need to hold on for a little while longer! Hope this is helpful.

Bless your soul for checking!!! Thank you!

Did they say if it would be mail or online??

  3. As it turns out I've also been wait listed at U of T, my roommate checked the mail for me. Children and Families stream, one-year advanced. My stats: BSW from McMaster, not great grades (B+ I believe in my final year). 2.5-3 years experience scattered through different organizations.

I don't plan on hanging my hat on this but if anyone has thoughts about my chances of getting in, I welcome it :)

My York myfile still says “no decision yet” though I also can’t check physical mail till I’m home tomorrow. I’ll keep you updated!

Thank you! Mine also says "no decision yet"

I did speak with the department much earlier this month and he said "You'll hear by the end of the month"... not even an indefinite "should". And it's the 26th <_< But I feel like it might be longer than that based on what I've seen people say in the forum.

    Hey all,

I received my letter from U of T putting me on the wait list. Does anyone know how likely my chances are of getting in? I have completed my undergrad (BSW) last fall. I have also applied to Laurier's 1 year advanced standing and I am very skeptical about getting in. Laurier is is very competitive. The waiting is driving my anxiety through the roof. Best of luck to all of you.

I feel like it can be hard to say with wait lists but I do know someone who got accepted off the wait list at U of T for the 2 years program last year and I think she heard around June. Hope that's helpful to you! I know waiting seriously sucks!

fingers crossed we get in! I haven't seen an acceptance to the children and families stream so maybe that means its coming out in waves - I emailed Angela so I'll let you know when she responds. When did your friend receive her rejection letter? @mswapplicant18

She got in the mail on the Sunday that past! (Not sure if she checks her mail daily but that's when she got it)

    Hopefully we'll hear soon :)

DId anyone who applied to UofT advanced msw “children and their families” stream hear back or get an invite on acorn? I know that many people who were accepted and posted on here mentioned that they were in the mental health and health stream so I’m curious.

I applied to Children and Families and haven't heard so maybe that does have something to do with it? I'd like to hope so :P
However, I do believe my friend who got a rejection letter did apply to the Children and Families stream as well

Click on Dashboard (left side column). Then ta da! It's under the heading "Academics"

Thanks guys! I didn't understand it at first because I didn't realize that if it didn't say "invited" it just wouldn't say anything at all haha. I'll just have to keep waiting! But hopefully that does mean an acceptance for everyone who sees "invited" :)

Check out your e-mail concerning your U of T Join id for the info you need to log into Acorn, then head on over to http://www.acorn.utoronto.ca/ . We weren't informed that we were supposed to, we're just keeners who are anxious for news and are wandering around for answers. I only found out about Acorn and Rosi, whatever from these forums.

    Hope that helps!

Honestly, I'm a bit skeptical, because it seems like everyone has been accepted, including myself.  I wonder if "invited" just means that we had applied to U of T.

    :(

Oh ok! I did do the set up for the Join id I just thought that had residence info and stuff! I've logged into acorn, but where would someone see invited or not?

    Hi All,

My ACORN update today and says "SW MSW 1 2018-2019, Fall/Winter, Invited'. I hope this means that I have been admitted into the program.

My last name starts with R if anyone was curious. My SGS still says 'Under Review' though so I will keep everyone posted!

Congratulations! That absolutely sounds like you got in!

I never created an ACORN/ ROSI account, when were we informed we were supposed to? I've only been checking SGS so I'm wondering if that would help

For the 2 year program? That's quite unexpected because the 2 year program normally doesn't get results until March, after the 1 year program results.

Has anyone seen their status change on SGS?

Yeah for the 2 year program! It was a rejection letter and their recommendation for her was that she take four courses to improve her grades apparently. Mine also says under review still.

  12. My friend got a rejection from U of T in the mail today for the 2 year program. Not sure if it's relevant but her last name starts with an A and I saw people mentioning acceptances/ rejections occurring in alphabetical order. Anyone know if that's true? Cause my last name starts with an S so I might be waiting for a while lol.

    Hi everyone,

I've been looking through this forum ever since the summer and only now made an account. Congratulations to everyone so far!

Curious to hear whether or not there's anyone here that's applying straight from their BSW. I'm from the GTA and only applied to Ryerson and UofT. I've heard it's incredibly difficult and competitive to get into your MSW straight from their BSW (I graduate this June!). I have about 2,500 relevant hrs, A- average, great references and unique experiences. I'm not expecting admission, but would love to connect or hear about other folks in a similar situation!

Hey there! I'm applying with my BSW as well, I have a lot of friends who have applied previously and got into their MSW without necessarily having work experience. I've never applied before this year so I can't speak from my own experience, but from what I hear from others, your application and good grades (particularly the grades) count for a lot more than they suggest. I had spoken to a placement supervisor who applied for her MSW with 8 years counseling experience and a BSW but an average/ poor GPA and she was rejected everywhere she applied her first year and accepted off the wait list at York her second application cycle. This is obviously only one story, but my point is that I consistently meet MSW students who have very little to no work experience but are successful in their applications. I'm sure you'll do well this year :)

  14. Hi all! I'm looking for a bit of feedback... I graduated McMaster with a BSW in 2015 and I'm now applying for my MSW at York and U of T. I'm not too optimistic :( I've worked at a women's shelter, a youth shelter, a group home run by CAS and was a family service work for a CAS (mix of relief, full-time positions that I held ranging from 6 months to one year). I did certificates at OISE in SFBT and CBT. I have pretty low-average grades, mid B-ish... not great, no research experience. I don't feel too great about certain answers for my personal statement for U of T. Do I have any hope of getting in?

I hate waiting, I keep checking but really I just think I'm looking for a rejection so I can at least know how to improve next year (tips on that would also be appreciated).
