  1. Worth a try. I know several international undergrad students for whom this has worked. I had suggested this to a friend last year who received no funding for his Masters, he didn't do it but he told me recently that some members of his cohort tried and received an increase. Im negotiating for full funding too right now and I've received assurance that the Department is trying. But as modmuse advised, I'm not pinning my hopes on it and neither should you.
  2. This sounds like a dream job! Personally, taking breaks to work between degrees (I took one before my MPhil and then a two year break after I deregistered from a PhD programme I was enrolled in) has helped me immensely. I'm sure you'll get a PhD position you want this year but if you don't then you have something really good already, so don't worry about a back up plan.
  3. Oy, that's damn good, rare to find work like that! Is your job somehow related to your research or even to arts/culture in general? A job you love is a SOLID plan of action! What is your area of research, if I may ask?
  4. I was pessimistic about my chances, so I made a back up plan before I applied. My plan was to do language preparation, reading, and finding paid with in my specific area. If funding and acceptances work out the way I want then these will only help if I begin this year. If not, they will count towards my applications in 2018. More than anything else, having something else to do has really helped with anxiety about results.
  5. Phew, there's still hope! I had emailed last week and that's what they said then. Also, response times seem to differ. For a university I've applied to, someone got an official letter ten days before I got an unofficial email and I still haven't received an official letter from that university. Good luck! And thank you for the update!
  6. I wrote to Berkeley to ask after the status of my application, the department responded saying they're still reviewing applications. I applied to two only, also tight on money. Have an acceptance from the other university, funding should not be a problem according to the POI. Don't particularly care about Berkeley now (it'll be a tough choice if I AM accepted) but I'd still like to KNOWWW.
