I got my CalArts Film/Video financial info yesterday. 20k/yr scholarship! Did anyone get any work study info? SAIC and SVA have offered potential work-study and I'm wondering if I didn't qualify for such at CalArts, or if info regarding that might come later, or if I'll just have to find a separate on-campus/other job ( which I'll have to do anyway ) . Want to email the the FinAid office but thought I'd ask here first as I'm not trying to seem too "well THESE schools did THAT" confrontational. Might wait a couple days for a physical packet if that's a thing with CalArts and see if that has info.

Just got accepted to SVA Photo/Video with an invitation to apply separately for a scholarship and for 10hr/20hr assistantships for 1/4th or 1/2th tuition. Still waiting on CalArts funding info but I’ll probably attend SVA’s accepted-reception either way since I’m around/already there one day a week for a Cont. Ed class. Anyone else going? Have any of you pitted your funding offers against those of other schools in hopes of further offers? Any way to do this gingerly? I have no idea who I would even email. One of my bosses has recommended it but he went to a funded program straight from the same undergrad so I don’t think he actually had to.

I got a package consisting of two folders; one had my acceptance letter and school paraphernalia and the other had my funding sheet and other info. It seems like different programs roll out things differently (my acceptance letter was dated february 23rd but i got everything March 5th, no phone calls) and I imagine you’ll get your packet soon. Could maybe email someone?

I got a generic vague email from SAIC on friday that I am invited to an admitted students reception. haven’t gotten an official acceptance yet though. ? after a seemingly great interview and visit at calarts I’m leaning that way if i get in, knock on wood. i know it’s irrational but saic’s shoddy communication is turning me off a bit further :/

got a graduate program info packet from saic today. was assuming it was an acceptance and FinAid info packet (not being presumptuous but why would they send a huge cardboard rejection lol) rather than the thing they oddly already sent my mom a month ago. ugh!

Congrats! Seems like a pretty unique program. I haven't heard yet but I didn't finish my application til a day before the extended deadline, so hopefully soon! >.<

Yeah I got hung up on a couple of their questions, specifically cultural influences and where my work is in context of art movements etc. or whatever. Normal questions that I was prepared for, they just asked the first one in a really labyrinthine way where they listed countless examples of cultural and artistic areas and it kind of made my head spin and go blank? If they had started with ‘film and video’ influences I would’ve been fine and able to expand from there! Instead I babbled, but one of the interviewers eventually brought it around to music which I was able to link in a sense-making way. They seemed well enough into me by the end so I feel semi-ok about it. Definitely feel more ready for my CalArts interview. Sorry I wasn’t able to meet up with anyone! My flight drama thursday threw everything off and I had to catch up on some remote work yesterday ?

Oh, I use Gmail and it automatically divides my email between "Primary," "Social," and "Promotions." So I didn't realize I had a CalArts interview invite until I searched 'CalArts' in my gmail just now and realized it had sorted it as though it was an advertisement.

Speaking from no authority other than knowing someone who once taught at SAIC Film/Video, I've heard that they (at least Film/Video) are an "Accept many, offer scholarships to few" type of program. He told me the interview is mostly a 'get to know you' thing. And I imagine a 'make sure you're not an asshole' thing. So not to get any hopes up since maybe things have changed since he's been there and I'm not sure entirely how well adjunct faculty have a concept of admissions particulars anyway, but for Film/Video at least it seems like he's telling me Interview invites (can) bode well for acceptances.

I'm such an incredible idiot. I missed the Bard financial aid application deadline by a week. I just submitted my FAFSA to my whole list but by the 2 or 3 days from now that it's processed and sent it'll be ~10 days late. And their website says 90% of MFA students receive scholarships or fellowships. For some reason I had it in my head that it was the 15th, I think I had it confused with CalArts. I guess my list of hopefuls is now SAIC, CalArts, Duke, Brooklyn, SVA, and Bard . I hate myself. The program there seems so unique and has one of my favorite filmmakers as a teacher. (all this quite possibly erroneously assuming I'm even going to get an interview much less an acceptance there lol)
