  1. Yay huge congratulations!! Will you be going to welcome week?
  2. Congratulations! I look forward to meeting you! Let me know if you're interested in connecting and good luck with your practicum search.
  3. I graduated with my bsw in 2015, and just got into the UofC msw. I would not recommend going straight into an msw because you're missing out on all the juicy experience you get by giving it a year or two! Getting a social work job was super hard for me. I lived on Vancouver island in BC and it's basically paradise, and it's super close to Uvic and UBC so it was super saturated to say the least. I was working as a support worker at a men's then also a women's shelter. Then I lucked out and got a job as a clinical counsellor but that was strictly because of who I knew. After I stopped that job I looked for a social work job for the better part of a year and no dice. I moved to Alberta and landed a job super quickly working in prisons as a case manager. It depends where you live! How resource rich the community is.
  4. I really hear you in how frustrating it can be that to get social work experience, you need social work experience which is maddening. Where I am from, shelter's (particularly the salvation army) hired almost anybody for front desk/reception /support work. Have you applied to support work positions? How did that go? I also echo others that volunteering with shelters and domestic abuse organizations is helpful to get that experience on your resume. Also even if a job says "must have such and such years of experience to apply" apply anyway! They always aim for the moon and there is a chance they may see th value in your experience. I hope that was helpful a little bit.
  5. Congratulations to all those who got accepted! How many 1 year MSW Clinical students are there? Would it be worth it to make a group or are they mostly the 2 year students.
  6. I hope I don't come off as harsh but if you're looking for clues as to where u of c is at with the 1 year clinical, I believe they have likely sent acceptances to the successful applicants because we have already picked out practicum choices. But I hope I'm wrong and maybe they just get going on those early and still waitlisted people or something.
  7. I was accepted into the 1 year clinical stream. My GPA from the last two years was 3.8 or 3.9 I can't remember. My experience was only 1 year shelter work( two different shelters) and one year clinical counselling on Aboriginal reserves, and I was unemployed for a year when I applied so I had a big ugly gap in my resume which I thought for sure was going to be my undoing. I wish I had more insight into their process but this is the first and only grad application I have done☹️. I wonder if my study plan was what pushed it over the edge? I truly have no idea.
  8. Which did you apply for? 1 year or 2 year?
  9. The 1 year clinical stream
  10. I'm talking about the one year program. Apparently the 2 year program hears back as early as late February.
  11. I received the email Mar 12 at 3:22pm. My last name starts with a Ch! Fingers crossed!!
  12. Fingers crossed for you!!!

  14. Sorry about that blank post, I can't seem to get rid of old quotes from previous posts. Anyway, if it's true that the one year advanced stream for the university of Calgary hear back on the 19th we have one more week to wait!!!! Ahhh
  15. Honestly I would give them a call and ask if no one has the answer. The only thing I know is that they don't do rolling acceptances but that's not to say they entail everyone on the same day.
  16. Right?! Omg I'm so anxious I could puke. Time to start obsessively checking my email!!!! A huge congratulations to those who got in!!!!!!! I really freaking hope to join you.
  17. How does you friend know? I hope so!! Eek now I'll be at the end of my seat until then haha here's hoping we hear good news!!
  18. Hey Alex, apparently those who applied to the university of Calgary msw won't hear back until end of March, I applied for the same stream! Fingers crossed for us.
  19. Me me me!! We won't hear until end of March, apparently they are behind??? I am anxiously waiting with you
  20. Can you give me the email for the clinical program advisor? I emailed about a resume update but got an automated reply.
  21. Really?? Ok I'll do that, thank you!
  22. That's awesome you have so much experience!! I feel like I did a good job on the study plan but ya never know lol I am also very much hoping I hear back soon!! I'll be checking my emails obsessively from next week on haha. I only have two years paid work experience-one year as a support worker in a couple shelters, and a year as a clinical counsellor for rural indigenous communities. I really hope my bare minimum experience is enough. My GPA calculated from the last two years is 3.95 or something. Overall it's 3.4 but I read they only calculate the last two years so that works for me!! It sucks because I have a year gap in my employment but now I have a great job that I wish I could have included in my resume!!! Ahhhhhhh
  23. Ya Calgary is the only school I applied for as well!! So much riding on it, Im going to be SO SAD if I don't get in. What gpa and experience do you have? I know they say end of March BUT on some older forums apparently someone heard as soon as Feb 13. Eeek fingers crossed for us.
