  1. Got the scholarship for Japanese!!!!!!
  2. my watch says my heart rate is 112 beats per minute I'm so nervous
  3. Does anyone know if your major(s) affect Boren's decision? I'm an English and music double major, and I saw that only one English major received the scholarship in 2017, and there were no music majors. Is it because Boren prefers students with majors related to international studies/politics or is it because people with majors in the arts simply don't apply to Boren as much? Or both? I'm majoring in English because I believe that good writing and communication is critical for government work and that not enough people are good at it, and I'm studying music because I have a departmental scholarship that requires me to be a music major and I need that money lol. I already studied abroad for a year in Japan in high school and I've done a lot of extracurricular activities relating to my interest in Japan and government, and in my second essay I explained my reasons for deferring my studies in international relations and public policy until graduate school. I also talked about my situation during my campus interview, so I know that they explained it in their end of the application as well. I also know that the campus representatives probably explained my passion for government too since I've spent tens of hours in their office talking about various government scholarships and discussing my future career goals. But someone on here said that they didn't think Boren really cared that much about campus representatives' evaluations, so I'm just worried that Boren will see my majors and think that I'm not "serious enough" about government or something...
  4. I received the same email as @zhaile. Mine was from BorenAsia, and it asked about program dates, program costs, and financial aid. It also said to reply by the 10th. Maybe they asked different questions because each region simply has different worries when it comes to budget/insurance. For example, I am applying to study abroad in Japan, so asking for insurance information is not necessary, because every student staying in Japan with a visa for more than three months is required to buy the Japanese National Health Insurance by law. At the end of the email, they also wrote a small note mentioning that many applicants have budgets that exceed the maximum award amount, and that we should double-check that amount on the Boren page. When I received the email, I went to my scholarship office first thing in the morning to consult with them about how to reply and if I should provide more documentation confirming my budget. They seemed hopeful that receiving the email is a good thing. I would assume that they would only send the email to people that they are considering, but do not think that you should worry about not receiving one, because there could be many other reasons why they only sent it to certain people. I might have received the email because my study abroad budget is slightly above the maximum award amount, or maybe because I made changes to my budget after the first budget update email and they simply wanted to confirm my changes. Who knows. At least we will find out soon.
  5. I applied for the scholarship.
  6. I got an email from Boren Asia too!
  7. Mine came today (3/15). The email said that all Boren scholarship applicants got the email, with the exception of AFLI French/Swahili/Portuguese, IFLI and SAFLI applicants.
  8. Got the email! I am very nervous for the final results...
  9. Does anyone know about the budget emails for scholarship applicants? Have they been sent yet?
  10. In one of the webinars it was said that GPA is not so much of a concern as it is for other programs. They want applicants to be good students and hard workers, but that can be shown in many ways other than GPA. I am a sophomore majoring in music and English with the intention of going to graduate school and working in the federal government. I am applying for a year in Japan.
