I understand that you are very disappointed and frustrated but I think it can't be generalised. I've talked to people and also read posts here from people who applied again and got the scholarship. Sometimes it's a combination of things: your topic, your supervisor, your interview performance, etc. I'm from a South East Asian country and not from any prestigious colleges or universities. My GPA was OK. Didn't even have any publication. I literally just decided to give it a go. I was very surprised when I got selected and decided to talk to the DAAD person to get some feedback. She said that it was because they were surprised with how I defended my topic and how enthusiastic I was. I would call myself extremely lucky. I was rejected by many fundings before DAAD. Mostly because I didn't have any publication or from a prestigious college. So I think you shouldn't be discouraged. Just keep trying.

Best of luck my friend but what a coincidence from DAAD, every one in India from reputed institute got selected while all applicants from local university got rejected. What does that mean. :) I am not frustated as its DAAD money and they are free to give to anyone on earth but why they fooled us. Thats what I am not getting,  but again its there money so comments :)

But again, I m requesting from local university applicant, be careful while you apply as it may lead to lose of time and money :)

    Best of luck :)

My status has not changed at all and it is still in the application submitted mode but I have received an email to check my message on the portal. There I found a rejection letter.:angry: If you are interested in what they said in the letter, here it goes

"your application was thoroughly reviewed by the responsible DAAD  Selection Committee, on which professors sit in an honorary capacity. We regret to have to inform you that the committee decided not to award you a scholarship.
The Selection Committee had to decide between 13 applications and was able to award 1 scholarships.
The number of qualified applications usually exceeds the number of available scholarships. Negative decisions do not always mean the committee considers the applicant to be unsuitable for the scholarship, but initially only that other applicants have been rated more highly in the given competitive situation.
It is the DAAD’s policy not to give detailed information on the reasons that led to this decision. Please be assured that the selection committee members gave full and due consideration to all relevant aspects contained in your application and in those submitted by other candidates.

We hope that this disappointing decision will not discourage you from looking for other ways to carry out your project".

I Got exactly same message today .. seems like DAAD scam.. all my friend from reputed institute from India got selected except candidate from local universities or colleges.. DAAD people should mention that applicant from local university or colleges are not applicable.. simple waste of time and energy..  would recommend people from next year if you are from local univ or college .. forget about ur chance .. i have more than 16 publication all above 4 impact factor paper .. percentage since class x is above 85 . 4 years research experince in ICMR govt of India.. WTF more they want from a PhD candidate .. DAAD NOT FOR COMMON APPLICANTS.. EITHER YOUR ADVISORS HAVE GOOD contacts or just dont apply ?

  3. I also got rejected :(  In Indian applicant from fancy and reputed University got selected.  I think applicants whose professor have good contact with DAAD only got selected.. Rest forget about it :(.

its just too disheartening to constantly be checking. i'm low-key mad at DAAD for toying with us like this. like don't they get that these are our futures? :(

First time in history.. GERMANS ARE NOT IN TIME.. LOL ???

I'm guessing the rest of the world already received their results, and still no news for the USA.

But I did have a dream last night that I was rejected by DAAD. In my dream, the reviewer took off 100 points because I missed an apostrophe in my motivation statement :P There were also notes in the margin where the reviewer was making fun of the things I wrote. Brutal.

No news from DAAD india too ??????

No email here! I was interviewed on Feb 1st. I was told in a reply mail that result will be out in the first week of April. ?

I really don't know how  to react.  I was told three different probable date in three different mail. I think they are  still busy  with making decision. people from India who had interview on 30th January  already got  their result. might  be our  turn now.

I got an email this morning directing me to the portal. I got rejected for the short term research. Apparently funded ~30 of the roughly 80 applicants. They have a 10-point rating scale and I was told I barely missed the cut at 8.5.

    Sorry to hear that :(

My status changed too! Its "selection made". But I see no change in the funding dates. It still shows what I gave (which is wrong btw, it was for 3.5 years).

    Waiting for the next change.

DAAD really knows how to keep us on our toes!

@Soh.Bhatt I am not sure if the email can be considered as the final offer. Only when we get the letters, we can say for sure. As for the language course..I vaguely remember them telling me during the interview that it will start on June 12th. I just assumed that it will be in Germany. The coordinator who replied for me thought I was applying to TU berlin, and hence told that my language course wont be there. Just a confusion on her part, I think. Did they say anything about language course location to you?

@praveen5321468 Think you are still not out. The disclosure restriction is because of the waitlists i think. In their email, they mentioned that they need our answers, so that they can move ahead with finalizing the list. And I second  "the decisions being sent out in batches". Fingers crossed!!

    Thanks .. :)

No, I have not received any letter and there is no change in my application status, it is still application submitted mode.  I am from Nepal but DAAD India handles all the application from Nepal. I have submitted all of my application documents to DAAD India. I have applied for long-term research grants for my Ph.D.

Let's hope for the best  :)

According to people earlier discussion in this forum, it means a decision has already been made. Now, it changes to either funding or rejected. Good luck!

@Nabin did u applied from DAAD India.

Did you receive any letter yet

I don't think "selection made" implies to my selection. I read everywhere that if "selection made" changes to "funding" then only you are selected. "selection made" can be changed to "rejected" as well. I have read in other posts.  And as I have told before that they give out offer in batches, so don't lose your hope yet.

Thanks ..  Let's hope for the best :)

I also found it quite childish! I guess they are doing it simply to avoid the unnecessary hassle of keeping people in waiting list or so! But please don’t think you are out. Because I read it in other forum that they give out offers in batches. Yours might come just after a few days.

Ridiculously they asked us not disclose it to our guides also. So my work here in India is also at a halt somehow. Most importantly I don’t even know whether this offer can be considered as final or not since there is so much secrecy associated. So I am a little stuck as well. But let’s hope for the best!

Mine PhD work condition is same.  could you please tell when u had ur interview. Mine was held on 31st january.

Yes my email says exactly the same. Mine is the 1 year sandwich program. So my language course is supposed to start in August. But I did not ask anything about the course later on. I mailed the lady on 22nd asking about the formal letter. She said it would take another 3 weeks! My only concern is whether I should consider this offer as final! or there is a chance of getting rejected later? What do you think? And by the way, the language course is not going to be in Berlin means what? will it take place in India itself?!!

Though I have also applied for 1 year sandwich program, I didn't receive any such mail yet. Do that mean, I am out :(   and what do they mean by saying not to disclose. Did we others , who are waiting for result, have committed any serious crime by applying for DAAD fellowship.:D Very strange and childish behavior.

Seems like this fellowship is meant for people, whose advisors who have good contact with DAAD. loosing hope :(

Hi, I am also a phd sandwich candidate. Was it a generic mail? Because I did not receive any such mail!

In your earlier post, you mentioned that you have received mail about your selection from DAAD indian office. Is it so, as I have also applied for PhD sandwich program but have not received any such mail. :(

Do anyone from DAAD india have received such mail regarding PhD sandwich.  Now another confusion

No, it was not a generic mail. It was reply to my mail regarding "probable date for announcement of DAAD result this year".

But again every one is getting different reply :( so I am not relying on that reply.

Hope we all get selected irrespective of this looooooooooooooong wait :)

Yeah of course always be positive! Apart from this horrible waiting period, when I went to the interview in january they told me that the phd would start in october as well, but in the webpage of the phd position was mentioned April as the starting month, because there is the german languange course prior to the beginning of the scholarship. Now, I got that a lot of people are applying from all over the world, but for f**** sake, be clear on dates. How am I supposed to organize trips and stuff if I don't have at least a couple of weeks to prepare? Idk

At the time of interview, I was told that result would be declared by mid march but yes off course they didn't mention the year.:D

  17. 1 hour ago, MicTric said:

Seriously?! For which programme did you applied and when are you supposed to start?

I applied for PhD sandwich program and will start from October, but only if i get fellowship, :(

  18. Again confusion, one of my friend was informed that result might be announce by second week of April but he is not sure as earlier he was told that result will be announced before 25 March :(.

Let stay strong and positive :)

Any last year applicant who have idea what is the chance of getting selected after interview,  this waiting period is killing me :(

  19. Seems DAAD is least interested in SANDWICH candidate ?

COngratulation to those who got the scholarship and happy halloween to people like us who are still waiting for DAAD  email impatiently ?

  20. Anyone from India who recieved mail for Sandwich program

EVERYONE IS FACING THE SAME PROBLEM WITH PORTAL. MIGHT BE TECHNICAL ISSUE
