  1. Plenty of people try to reschedule, or need to reschedule, it shouldn't be a big issue. Most universities have at least one, if not two, alternate dates. If you tell your top school that they are your top school, and you want to interview, but can't at that day due to a prior commitment to interview at another school, my hunch is that they will not really think about you as an applicant, but just try to schedule something that does work.

  2. None of the graduate schools I am applying to require me to take the subject test in the GRE (I am a biomedical sciences prospective applicant), but several of them say "GRE Subject Suggested" and one says "Subject Highly Suggested". I had fairly decent GRE General test scores, but I'm not sure if I should try and take the subject test (it would be Biology). Since no one really requires it, would it hurt my chances a lot if I don't take it? My grades are good and I have excellent letters of recommendation, as well as four years of research experience.

I am struggling financially, and I don't know if I can even  pay rent this month, let alone afford to take the test right now, but if it really is a necessary part of the application, I can try and figure something out. Applications alone are going to be a struggle, and though I qualify for waivers for applications, I still have to pay to send the GRE scores themselves (I know I have to do this for the General test anyway).

    Any input or suggestions?

  3. I am not sure if I should retake the GRE. I am looking into very ambitious Biomedical Sciences programs in the USA. I am looking at Gerstner Sloan Kettering, Mt. Sinai, Duke, and MIT to name a few. I have considerable research experience and a 3.7 GPA, but my GRE scores were mid-range: 161 Verbal, 163 Quant, 4.5 Analytical Writing.

For admissions statistics, I am still within the range of scores of admitted students, but a grad student in my lab suggested I should retake the test because he didn't think the scores were good enough to get into the places I was looking at. Please advise.
