Just got my rejection. I knew it was coming, but somehow it didn't make it less depressing.

Anyone get a response to their email yet?

My application was definitely processed since I got both the finalist and update information notifications, so it’s not like I was missing a rec / GRE / etc and disqualified automatically. She just said she would assume I had been rejected and to email them. She said “they told me that all emails have been sent out” which is obviously false, so it seems like she doesn’t actually know. I wish I could get in touch with “they.” We at least deserve to know one way or another, this whole thing has been an absolute debacle.

I got nothing as well, emailed sti-tec but haven't got a response yet (besides the instant automated one which says to wait up to two weeks for a response. Lol) Two of my friends also got nothing. Although Barb doesn't seem to know any more than we do, at this point I'm inclined to agree with her that it most likely means we got rejected.

I just called and spoke to Barb. She said that if I hadn’t received an email yet, to assume I had been rejected, but to email ndsegf@sti-tec.com to make sure. So looks like we should assume the worst, sorry guys Well, I guess I had better begin looking for industry jobs now...

Alright, it's been over 8 hours and 20 minutes since the first rejections were sent out, and many of us still don't have ours. This is just cruel at this point...

I really wish they had specified the budget cut stuff BEFORE the application was released (or at least before the deadline!) Maybe fewer people would have applied in that case, those who didn’t really need it. I still would have applied though. Assuming I don’t get it, I will likely have to drop out of my program (2nd year PhD, no fellowships, and potential advisor will only take me if I have a fellowship. I may be able to persuade him to take me if I can get a TAship, but I’m not guaranteed to get one, they are a TON of work, and he’s worried that I won’t have enough time for research if I have to TA). This would be very sad, even though it’s ultimately all my own doing. Sigh...

Seems like a ton of people still haven’t heard. I’m not ready to say this is good news for us, because I haven’t seen enough rejections today to make me think that we all won the thing (there should be like 6x as many rejections today as winners if indeed 40% become finalists). I guess I might call in a few hours if there is still no news. This is just so frustrating, waiting til the second week of April was bad enough, now this. (I’ll take back all my complaining if I win, but I don’t think that’s going to happen.)

What 4 fellowships even are there? I applied to NSF and NDSEG, are there more that are open to nondiverse STEM majors currently in grad school? (Other than Hertz)
