  1. Thanks! I do think topic had a lot to do with it. My project looks at the reproduction of colonial hetero-patriarchy (inherited after forced displacement of Indigenous notions of gender and sexuality to undermine political structures) in contemporary Indigenous political movements and how we best address those reproductions. So I'm dealing with gender/race/Indigenous-settler relations. I also dropped "reconciliation" in there. I'm an Indigenous woman but they don't know that, so I do think the score was largely due to my topic relating to a lot of the themes SSHRC promotes.
  2. An update on my score, incase anyone is interested (warning - very lucky first time applicant): I received the Joseph-Armand Bombardier CGS - with a score of 17.8/20 committee 5. First time applicant, no publications, one conference, also had no grad school transcripts with application (I was in the first semester of MA when I applied). Like everyone is saying... it is all about luck, who gets to read your application. If we made it to the national level, we are all there for a reason. I also hope this gives hope to applicants who feel like their application wasn't strong because of a somewhat bare resume, I guess ... based on my luck ... sometimes the project is more important to the adjudicators, so don't be afraid to apply. EDIT: I received my official letter today on Vancouver Island - I feel awful for everyone still waiting across the country for results - why do we have ours already out here on the coast?!
  3. Thanks! Good to know. I truly didn't think I would receive any significant awards, so I only applied to my local uni.
  4. Hi all, again - This is somewhat related to scholarships: Does anyone know if you can leverage your doctoral awards to gain acceptance into a phd program you haven't applied for? Or is it generally the practice that once applications are closed, they're closed. Thanks in advance!
  5. Hi all - I got news from scholarship office that I was awarded CGS - It doesn't feel real so I look forward to the official letter. I'm shocked - I was in committee 5 I believe which is economics, business, poli sci, and I have no publications and only one conference and one guest lecture. I'm guessing it was successful only due to project relevance to the SSHRC mandate and a few academic awards. Good luck to those who haven't heard, and to those who were unsuccessful - its luck of the draw who gets to review your application so try not to beat yourself up. I consider myself to be very lucky - luck and privilege more than skill I'd say. Will update with my scores once I get official letter.
  6. Haha okay thanks! Eeek I guess I will try and get this bandaid ripped off.
  7. For those of you who have heard back from your university, what did your universities say when you were forwarded to the federal competition? Asking because my email specifically said "SSHRC will mail you results" so I'm hesitant to bother them because they were pretty clear about it. Thanks!
  8. Well, hopefully they've got their facts straight! time will tell I guess.
  9. Just clued in what your username is on here ... haha never mind!
  10. Wow, Congrats! Do you mind sharing what committee you applied to?
  11. FROM THE SITE: The Canada Graduate Scholarships – Michael Smith Foreign Study Supplements Program is available to Canadian citizens or permanent residents who hold a Joseph-Armand Bombardier, an Alexander Graham Bell, or a Frederick Banting and Charles Best Canada Graduate Scholarship (CGS) at the master’s or doctoral level, or a Vanier CGS at the doctoral level. Damn, I don't see it in my portal. The heartbreak starts early. <--- it is available on my portal but I had to load it thru the michael smith SSHRC app page then log in and it showed up.
  12. To my knowledge, the only reason a doctoral applicant would be informed by email is if their graduate scholarship office informs them of the news (for both successful or unsuccessful applicants). However, the scholarship office usually doesn't get the results any earlier than they are sent out by mail either. Many universities choose not to email results to applicants when they receive the list and instead make everyone wait until they receive the results in the mail. So all SSHRC doctoral/CGS applicants are informed of their results by mail, unless their university gets the info to them via email between the time their letter is sent to when it arrives. Other SSHRC competitions have different notification systems, so SSHRC MA students may find out via email or the portal.
  13. It looks like previous years' result letters were sent out between April 23-28, so it is unlikely we will see them until closer to early May.
