I understand that this is a stressful and trying time, but going on the offensive in a community intended for support throughout this process doesn't really help anybody.

Anyone here planning to attend the Michigan, Duke, or NYU visit days?

It wasn't an automated email to check the portal, it was an email from the chair of the admissions committee (so not a POI necessarily)

That's so awesome!!!! Congratulations!!!! From what I've heard, Michigan's provisions for day care etc. make it the best place in the US to be a parent in grad school -- I'm so so happy to hear you got in!

Over the moon to have gotten a Michigan acceptance this morning. I can't even process this, I'm beside myself

The Michigan rejection on the board seems to have been a one-off thing... maybe it was a troll? That's less than cool, but a week ago it looked like the Political Science results were being trolled pretty hard so I guess I wouldn't put it past someone

I think I may have previously come across rumors on this site that the Columbia MA program is a bit of a "cash cow" program, so perhaps this is evidence of that? Regardless, congrats on getting into a program you didn't even apply to!

@SgtDonut I'm pretty sure 6-7 years to completion is pretty common, at least at top 20 programs. The only place I've seen that seems to graduate students in 5 years is Duke, and some places in the top ten it seems like time to completion averages more at 7 or 8 years

Another waitlist posted for Duke. Why are they sending out waitlists before acceptances? The suspense is killing me here!

It was crickets for me this week and I'm starting to go stir-crazy, even though I shouldn't be nearly so anxious. I'm still waiting to hear from 6 more programs; I assume it's a rejection from Berkeley, but I just want to hear from the other 5 departments so I can stop worrying and start making a decision. I'm just about ready for application season to be over!

Same. I'm hoping to find out about a travel stipend or something in the final details -- I don't think I'll make it to visit days without one, unfortunately.

Has anyone received funding specifics from UCLA? They gave me an outline when I was admitted and said details would follow but I haven't heard anything more.

I think that if your submitted writing sample is strong and your SOP clearly outlines your quant experience/lucidly explains how you want to apply it as a sociologist, AdComms probably won't even care about your AW score. It seems like, if you prove you can write in your application materials, what do they care what you scored on a timed test?

My bet is that if they call and you don't pick up, they'll send your offer via email next. Don't stress too much! I can't imagine that not having your phone on hand isn't going to keep your application from consideration.

I can claim one of the UNC admits! I wasn't expecting it at all honestly. I got a call from a POI, though, so I wouldn't count yourself out yet -- it could be that your POI just hasn't yet had time to make the call!
