  1. I had a dream last night about grad schools...Dreamt I was accepted to Princeton and got a 30k stipend. I don't know why it was 30k. Also then I received a very personal email from an adcom at some other unspecified college "We found your application utterly vile and repulsive, and your research very boring, so we are rejecting you", like some cruel inversion of an acceptance email. I would like the first part to come true. Lol I need to stop looking at screens
  2. Lol, I'm probably wrong but for me anything East of Indiana is "EastCoast" and California/Oregon/WA/whatever is West Coast
  3. I'm from the Midwest and all schools I applied to are East/West coast except UChicago and Indiana theory. Rejected from the latter and probably rejected from former, so I am excited that if I am accepted to a grad school it will be far from home, I've never actually visited either coast. Are you applying straight out of undergrad like me?
  4. Yeah, many places haven't seemed to be that consistent over the years, makes the reading of tea leaves and coffee beans even harder. How many did you apply in total? I did quite a few but I think it was 3 too many. In my opinion, more is always in your favor if money/time isnt an issue (I got waivers almost everywhere). At least that's what my profs told me. In my boredom I made a spreadsheet with date ranges I can expect to hear back. Next week and the following one will hopefully be the noisiest for me, with two straggling behind in March. I really want to convert some of these interviews into acceptances, like alchemy. Also looks like Cornell acceptances are out. Congrats to the lucky phone call receiver who posted on resultsboard!
  5. Are you expecting to hear from anywhere else by the end of the week?
  6. Just received Interview email at Penn. Took me by surprise, I thought they'd already sent them all out.
  7. Lets hope we get into one college we like! Just need one, can't attend two at the same time!
  8. Damn I'm sorry. I hope the rest of the month will go well for you. I'll be sad with you!How many do you have leftt o hear from? Reality is now hitting me and I'm a bit worried I'm gonna get rejected everywhere. 4 rejections and 3 implied ones (from having not received acceptance/interview at this point). Yale interview went well today but an interview going well seems to be no indicator of success, they've probably 79% made up their mind by then. There's one school on my list I now wish I did not apply to, I bet God knows this and he will arrange so that they alone accept me and I will have to make a peculiar decision.
  9. Just got an Eastman rejection delivered steaming hot to my email inbox ?
  10. @musician94 Again congrats on ur UCB acceptance and I hope the next few months pan out how you like. Good luck! "Fit" is slowly coming something meaningless to me. There are just so many variables that are impossible to predict until you are actually on campus, making friends with students, taking classes, meeting profs etc. I will try to leave my hope in this admissions process' ability to appropriately match students and institutions. I will say though, that for me a good fit college is one with a high rate of placement of PhD graduates into tenure-track positions. I would objectively be an incredible fit at schools like that, and a bad fit at the other ones.
  11. Congrats @nardis for uchicago! Nice to have an acceptance already in early Feb. I've also applied to UCLA and have not heard about an interview. A bit disappointed I didn't get an email for chicago though, was my top choice and a great fit.
  12. cuny musicology phd interview email
  13. I am applying for musicology, so I was surprised my interviewers are theory faculty. This may be simply a matter of faculty availability. My research is also heavier on analysis than most musicologists and I discuss this in the SOP so that may have contributed to this decision.
  14. The interview will be with the DGS and another music theory prof. I wouldn't throw in the towel just yet though, interview dates on results page seem a little scattered across early Feb.
  15. This is not me, but I remember from previous threads Harvard occasionally interviews despite what they say. Most accepteds seem to get accepted without having to do one. But yeah it's odd nonetheless. My guess is it's less an interview and more a asking for details on ur app kind of thing. Wonder who it is tho.
  16. I am pretty sure the emails were for the whole dept., musicology was not mentioned in the email.
  17. my moneys on Uchicago releasing acceptances tomorrow Unless theyvé already done it and just none of us got one?‍♀️?‍♀️
  18. me too ?
  19. Right here: https://www.thegradcafe.com/survey/
  20. Results page say they do interview for musicology, and in previous years those interviews have been sent out the same day as ethnomusicology interviews. It looks like we're probably rejected.
  21. Damn didn't get interview and was rejected from UCB last night
  22. i would like to get a part time job maybe
  23. To me, musicology and music theory are the exact same thing, and there is not a grain of difference.
  24. Yeah I agree. When you click with someone it can make for a much more productive relationship than someone whose research fits well but may not 'get' you or vice versa. Admittedly I am a little hard of hearing and had to do the interview on a lousy internet connection so my short time wasn't as productive as it could have been. But no point sobbing over split soymilk.
  25. Good to hear! Was your Eastman interview very short too? They asked me maybe a couple questions and I asked them a couple, wasn't quite 20 minutes. It's nice to be able to meet your potential profs and see some faces even if its just via Skype.
