Anyone have experiences/know anything about the program? I have a four year offer elsewhere (in English) at a school I feel very good about, while Binghamton is offering 3 years... Also, it's a choice between TAship and teaching. I'm intrigued about the PLC program and the possibility of being able to teach in both philosophy and English departments. My gut tells me to go English with more security from what I gather, but if anyone has first hand knowledge about Binghamton's program I'd love advice.

Hmm... I'd take the professor's word at face value. It seems that This person would only say that if it were true. Schools generally (as far as I know) select prospective students within a range, especially for unfunded offers, so it's not as if your 'semi-acceptance' is necessarily going to screw someone else over... In all likelihood nothing will be affected by your decision

Last year I applied to 18 schools, only the top programs, and no acceptances. This year, slightly humbled, I applied to 4 mid teir schools and 1 top, and was accepted by 3. Given that my application was much better this year, I would have applied to more top schools. I'm thrilled to have good options, but will always wonder if I might have gotten into some schools I didn't even try for this year. It's hard to gauge how strong one's application is apart from the process, but since I've had schools court me this year, I wonder if maybe I'd have been accepted to more had I tried. Part of the game I guess. Still, having only been rejected, I didn't know that my application this year was substantially better, and perhaps competitive in 'dream' schools... Guess I'll never know

Damn, Buffalo is one of the schools I thought I'd have the best chance at... does this mean I'll go 0/14????

The details on the apartment are actually a little different than I originally posted--I didn't realize I would not be able to edit the post (or delete it, it seems). Rent is actually less than original post--$720 without a car, $800 with a car. First, last, and $700 security deposit. Can't believe I'm unable to edit my posting--oh well. 1200 sq. ft., hardwood floors, large bedrooms, close to Coolidge Corner...

I'm starting grad school at NEU and have found a great place in Brookline, between Coolidge Corner and Brookline Village. Now I just need some good roommates, other grad students who will be a good fit. It's a 3 bedroom, 775/mo without parking, 850/mo with parking, heat/water included. Just rejected a spot for the MA at Kent State, if anybody cares

Is anyone still waiting to hear from schools at this late date? It's driving me crazy. Binghamton, Purdue, U of Florida, and Penn State have yet to give me any information. It just seems crazy to me since the deadline to decide is in 6 days!

I've been accepted to two English MA programs, neither with funding guaranteed. Ultimately I'm trying for a PhD program, but haven't been accepted to any yet. Getting an MA with no funding from Northeastern might stick me with 60 grand or more in debt; from Kent I'm thinking quite a bit less, but still substantial. Living in Boston is of course much more expensive than Ohio. Any advice? Boston would be a great place to live, and the programs both seem to fit. The alternative would be to wait and apply again for PhD programs again next year. Thanks,

So, is anyone else waitlisted at Albany? There are 7 spots for 120 applicants... don't know how short their waitlist is. Did anyone accept/deny their offer? Know how many are on the waiting list? Etc...?

Well, I got accepted into the MA program too (applied to PhD), and my letter said a scholarship might be possible (tuition waiver) but not an assistantship position. Does anyone know more about this? I haven't received any more info. about this, and could not afford NU without a tuition waiver. Have yet to turn down my MA offer, though, as I'd consider attending if tuition was waived.
