  1. I still haven't received mine I hope its not lost in the mail, I had hopes to make a little hat or frame it or something
  2. I am wondering the same regarding gatech...I have seen some admissions, but still on their website it says no decision available. I'm not sure if they simply delay rejection announcements (as seems to be the case with many schools) or if they are still evaluating certain applications. I did send an inquiry via email to gatech yesterday (not to my dept, but to the grad office contact I had prior to my application being submitted), but have not yet received a response. If you find out anything, post it here
  3. I suppose this may be standard for most schools that send out an early round of admits, but then sit on decisions for other apps. I'm still waiting for gatech to make a decision, but i know some admits have already been sent out. My inquiry however says that no decision in my case has been made yet. Perhaps they are considering masters applicants now.
  4. Hooray safety comes through...tuition waiver, 1.5k/month, + yearly fellowship for extent of the program. My first official result...It's a safety but I'm happy and no letter from MIT here yet either.
  5. That's quite a window, perhaps their way of saying you are waitlisted?
  6. Well, I didn't ask...her tone of voice when I asked if the accepted received notification via email told the whole story. Yeah everyone keep this thread alive and post decision results !
  7. As i suspected it is pretty much over... arlutin: have all decisions been made? nice lady: Yes, notifications will be mailed tomorrow. arlutin: have all the accepted been notified via email prior to the mailing? nice lady: Hrm...most of them have...Yes.
  8. Another day (perhaps the REAL REAL last day until tomorrow )... here is hoping we see some good news...
  9. Yeah i saw those too...not very confidence inspiring
  10. Another day of waiting...here we go! If someone calls MIT please post the response...If I have a chance I will try and give them a call. Busy day today however, so I'm not promising anything, and to be honest I have somewhat given up hope. I'm wondering when the Jan. 15 deadline schools will start sending out acceptances...
  11. Nothing here either, acceptance or otherwise....and yeah I don't think the old adage 'no news is good news' applies to our current situtation
  12. Haha I was wondering the same..too bad we can't draw straws
  13. blech...i just want to hear from someone, even one of my safety schools...this anxiety is killing me
  14. Haha, I hope so! Anyone apply to gatech? (12:18 PM in Boston )
  15. Check out the wikipedia entry on the research triangle: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Research_Triangle quote: The Triangle's population is the most educated in the United States, with the highest number of Ph.D.s per capita. LA def. has its draws too, but I wouldn't count out NCSU as far as getting job contacts goes...I have a few friends working there as scientists in different fields and they enjoy it very much.
  16. Having lived in both Cali and NC, I can say that both areas are quite nice. You may have more crime in LA though, I have never lived in that part of California so can't really comment on that. If getting a job is part of your motivation, keep in mind silicon valley is norcal, so it's not like you will be living in the heart of silicon valley...where at NCSU you have the research triangle, which you are in the heart of. Opportunites in the triangle are just as good as in silicon valley imo. Regardless, you should pick the school which is strongest in your research area and concentrate on that.
  17. Yes I also applied straight for PhD, not only at MIT but at most schools I applied to except for my safety schools. I also missed the deadlines for fellowships, a bit bummed about that right now...I think I may have had a better chance had I not missed them. I haven't heard from any other schools so far, how about you? Starting to get extremely anxious as most people about now...I'm really hoping I hear some good news from somewhere next week just to relieve some of the worrying and fear of spending a year in a cube and having to go through the process again next year haha
  18. Hey durlov, I'm also undergrad so you are not alone! Did you apply for Masters or PhD ? The prof who directed my undergrad research received his PhD from MIT and mentioned they do take undergrads applying straight into the PhD program preferable to those w/ masters objective. There is hope, though I must say I believe chances are slim if we didn't hear anything by now unless you are waiting on an external fellowship (NSF, etc.).
