Is anyone else waiting to see what financial aid might be available from Hopkins before sending in their acceptance?

I did take plunge and booked travel to Baltimore for the orientation. If anyone is interested in sharing housing (AirBnB, 2-bedroom, already booked with flex cancellation policy), feel free to direct message me.

I am waiting on my financial aid package and my admitted students day experience before accepting! :fingers crossed:

Thanks for looking into that! I just got my FAFSA marked Received as of today. I didn't realize there was even any chance of getting funding from JHU for this program... Did you simply submit the JHU form and the FAFSA to them and that's all they need? Or was there another avenue to request aid?

    Thanks!

I submitted FAFSA and the PH Student Aid Form. Are you referring to the PH Student Aid Form as the JHU form? These were the only items on my to-do list on the SIS website.

I don't seem to have an award letter at all... where are you seeing yours?

I can’t see it because it’s not there. I emailed financial aid and Brenda Hedrick and found out the following for the PH Finacial Aid Application:

Typically, once your application is complete, it will take our office approximately two to four weeks to process your application and generate an award for you. We review files on a continuous basis once the application is completeIn order to receive financial aid you have to meet the requirements of at least 6 credits per term

You have to be registered for at least 6 credits total (winter and third term combined) and at least 1 credit in third term to be funded for the Winter institute

For Summer Institute funding, you need to take a minimum of 1 credit during summer term and can take the remaining 5 credits during Summer Institute (or for example split it 3 credits Summer term and 3 credits Summer Institute, or some other combination totaling 6 credits).

I got an email yesterday offering an interview

Wow that’s so late considering that decisions were going to be communicated by the 15th. Congrats on getting an interview invite. Which track did you apply to... I applied to Sociomedical Sciences. Are interviews required for admission?

    The entire convo:

Me: Hi, I'm looking for some specific information about DrPH program admissions.

Hopkins: What information in particular are you looking for?

Me: I'd like to know the exact date when admissions decisions for the DrPH program will be sent out, or to be connected to someone who has that information.

Hopkins: Decisions have not been sent out yet, and should be sent out early next week.

To me early next week means Monday or Tuesday. Wednesday is already mid next week lol. Thanks for calling ?

Totally with you on this. I've called from both my cell and my google number ... hehehehe.

And yes, I'd be dollars to Homer Simpson donuts that they know EXACTLY who is in and who is out, AND when the decisions are coming.

Haha. It’s getting to the point that we are going to have to start making calls with robotic software that has different voices. We can all say we have other offers to decide on lol. But in all seriousness, thanks for calling them on different occasions.

Congratulations to all who got admitted to BU. And it seems like the Harvard rejection club is thriving.

I have no idea if Columbia does interviews unfortunately. What department did you apply to? Based on last year, it seems we should know in the next week to 10 days. I've already kind of mentally decided to try again in next year's application cycle and to be more strategic about things.  Unless an absolute miracle happens and I get off the Hopkins (PhD) waitlist with funding. But no regrets, this application cycle has been a major learning experience and really I should have made time to scour these forums BEFORE applying rather than last minute-ing everything around my work schedule.

I applied to Sociomedical Sciences. What about you? I definitely will give more time towards the application process. I thought a month and a half would be enough: definitely not the case with a full-time job. At least we know that Hopkins decisions will come out soon.

Just got rejected from Harvard DrPH... Now my only remaining result is Columbia DrPH which I don't think I will get into (also was my least preferred choice of the 4 schools I applied to).

Also got rejected from Harvard’s DrPH ?. Waiting on Hopkins and Columbia DrPH. Do you know if Columbia conducts interviews? I have not received any interview invites...

  9. I can sympathize with everyone. We just need to be patient! I am waiting to hear from Harvard, Hopkins and Columbia DrPH Programs. Does anyone know if interviews are necessary for admission to Columbia? It seems that interviews are required for Harvard; they are not required for Hopkins. Best of luck to all!

Hi everyone! Glad to see this thread has kicked off.

I've applied to the Health Security track at Hopkins and the Leadership track at USF.

Regarding GRE scores, in a webinar for Hopkins (in September I believe?) they said they look at the quantitative more closely than the verbal, but didn't give any specific cutoffs or ranges at that time.

    Good luck to everyone!

I heard in another recent webinar that they review the application holistically.

    Good luck!

I posted earlier trying to get some feedback from people who may have attended or know someone who has attended these programs, but no luck. I missed the USF deadline, but emailed hoping for late consideration. Also applying to UNC and UIC. Don't know much about the latter.

Re:GRE - did Hopkins waive this requirement for you? If so, would you mind sharing how?

    https://www.jhsph.edu/academics/degree-programs/doctoral-programs/doctor-of-public-health/admissions.html

scroll down to find waiver info ^^

Request for waiver was due 10/15. I had to send my CV, transcripts, and expired GRE scores. They want to see evidence of quantitative ability. My GREs scores were so so, but I actually did well in Biostats. I guess this is what allowed me to get the waiver.

My application is in at Johns Hopkins for the DrPH in Health Policy and Management - Quality & Patient Safety track.

Pakiprincess - I'm not aware of any funding other than the Bloomberg Fellowship (deadline December 1).

Deacon - I was able to get my GRE waived (my scores were old, but decent), I think mostly because I do work in a semi-quantitative field and have a PhD in a life science.

So anxious to hear back, but they don't start reviewing applications until December, and we won't hear anything until March (per admissions/website info).

I also heard there is a new HPM track - Policy - coming next year.

I'm interested in policy evaluation, patient outcomes, and safety at the intersection of medical cannabis, chronic pain, and pharmacologic therapies (opioids, etc).

Are you applying to the Bloomberg fellowship? If so, have you had issues with the word count in the form? Good luck with your application.

Is there any sort of financial aid available for the part-time DrPH program at Hopkins? My plan is to have my employer pay for it, but I am trying to identify all of my options.

    Check out https://americanhealth.jhu.edu/fellowship

It’s due 12/1. Two forms must be filled out; one by you and one by your collaborating institution. Be mindful that the short-answer questions claim to accept 500 words, but the actual pdf fillable form accepts closer to 400.. I have emailed about this, but have not heard back.

I'm only applying to one: the Health Security track DrPH at Johns Hopkins. I wish I could apply to more but I have a job that takes me overseas quite a bit so I need something flexible.

I am also looking for part-time, online options, although I am applying to some full-time ones. I rather stay at my job and keep getting my income :)

Have you checked out these online DrPHs? UNC- https://sph.unc.edu/hpm/hpm-drph/ , UIC- http://publichealth.uic.edu/drph , USF https://health.usf.edu/publichealth/apply/graduate-admissions/drph

I am applying to Harvard, Columbia Mailman (Sociomedical Sciences.. I wish they had a doctorate in their Health Policy and Management track), Hopkins- Implementation Science Track (part-time online), and University of Chicago, Illinois (part-time, online). I wanted to apply to other programs, particularly UNC and CUNY SPH, but my GRE scores are 6 years old, therefore expired. The schools I am applying to are either accepting my expired scores or scores are not required/waived.

I am currently working on my apps...what a lovely Thanksgiving it will be lol!
