  1. I just have a general questions about emails to check school websites for status of application. I have been seeing these on the results page for clinical psychology (UNC, URochester, etc) and at this point I'm pretty sure I am rejected from these schools. However, I have not gotten those mass rejection emails yet. I know Rochester was from a while ago too.

Does anyone know why? Just out of curiosity!!

I think there are a lot of tips that are helpful like being sure to have a devoted amount of time set aside to have skype dates or visiting as often as possible. For me, I was LDR with my boyfriend for almost 4 years before finally now being able to move to him where he's doing his PhD (just got accepted to a program in his city!), and I think having an "endgame" is the most essential. You need to know that the time apart will end at some point--a light at the end of the tunnel, so to speak. Otherwise, you have to ask yourself why you're putting yourself in limbo. You both need to be able to commit to the fact that you can see yourself being together after your respective programs are over. Best of luck!

Thank you for sharing! It's def a conversation to be had, and probably a tough one. Congrats on the acceptance btw!!

They're waiting to see if others decline the opportunity to interview. Given the crapshoot that application cycles are, I doubt anyone would say no to an interview unless they're REALLY strapped for cash or already got into their top choice. That said, Suffolk's interview is much later so maybe someone will change their mind between now and then. Good luck!!

Thanks! I was thinking that too, it's def probably unlikely ppl turn down interviews. But, I will hold onto hope for a little bit. :) Congrats and good luck at your interview there!

  4. Can anyone provide tips for doing long distance relationship? All the schools I am invited to interview at are pretty far from home. My partner and I have been together for 2 years and he is also doing his phD right now (in the city we live in).

It's the first time in my life when I'm seriously questioning how the hell is this gonna work out LOL I'm excited for all these opportunities, and am very VERY grateful. I said to myself I will not let anything stop me from going down this career path, but I also can't help but also factor in how much I care about this relationship (and my family).

My parents are first gen immigrants and I am the main person who deals with medical stuff, translation, etc. So it is hard to let go and not worry.

I did the same with my SOP. The application page specifically states that all profs review apps together, but to keep in mind how our research interests link up with faculty members. I figured it was safe to list a few I was interested in just in case. EM was one of my mine too, along with KL and JRL.

Also, totally random thought... why do we give POI names in initial form? Anyone can go to the faculty page and look up who we're referring to lol. I guess it's for efficiency's sake but I've always thought it silly how secretive some folks can be about POI identities.

LOL good question about initials, I just followed the format because everyone else did that ? but now that you mention...

Fairleigh Dickinson poster on the results page, who was your POI?

Me as well, particularly for City College's clinical PhD program. I know some people posted about Fairleigh Dickinson recently - I'd be interested in hearing about POIs for them too, if you'd be comfortable sharing on this thread or in a private message. Thank you! ?

I listed a few faculty whose research interested me in my SOP: EM & SU

However, I did not apply to work with a particular POI since they indicated they are a generalist program.

I have been waiting on Yale as well. I'm wondering if I should be losing hope at this point?

I have been following the results page, and did not see any postings about interviews for Yale! Checked their website and it says people should be notified by mid-Jan. so I can relate to your feelings.

Edit: Contacted admissions and they said they sent out invites at the end of December. There may some additional interviews on a rolling basis but not guaranteed. Hope this helps!

This is my third round of applications so I understand how easy it is to get down on yourself when those invites/acceptances aren't rolling in. For me, it is a constant process of reminding myself how competitive these programs are and reminding myself to be proud of my accomplishments up to this point. Even just following through to submit 18 applications is a HUGE ACCOMPLISHMENT! I barely survived doing 10 this year... Your value is NOT dependent on your acceptance into a program or your recognition by a school. Every single one of us applying to these programs shows a tremendous amount of commitment and dedication to bettering the quality of life in our society and that is something to be proud of in itself. Each time you go through these application cycles you become smarter, stronger, and a better person by learning patience, how to manage anxiety, and how to process rejection. Most of all, I just remind myself that rejection is a universal experience, one that is felt by EVERYONE at some point in their life. Knowing there are others out there, in the exact same position, experiencing the same wave of emotions as I, gives me confidence that we will all come out on the other side as better people. Be your own #1 cheerleader and remember to also build yourself up and not just your applications. Confidence will naturally follow, even in the face of self-doubt and rejection. ❤️

    THANK. YOU.

I have been refreshing TGC over and over again the past few days and had thoughts about pursuing a career change even though I had set my heart on clinical psychology for the last 5 years. I agree with what you said about rejection - it's a humbling experience. Let's keep our heads up! :)

  9. Does anyone know if URochester sent out a mass email for rejections? I haven't gotten one (yet), but I also haven't heard back from POI or the department for interviews. Also just checked the website and it says my app is still under review.

Either still under review or they just haven't updated the system yet for the rejection LOL

There are plenty of schools that do not even pick up applications to read until after the new year! Plus, many professors I know don't actually come back to work until classes restart, which is probably next week. Unless you have strong evidence to the contrary, I wouldn't start presuming rejections until February at the earliest!

Thanks for the encouragement, much appreciated! I just got to remind myself that this is all part of the process.
