I'm waitlisted at JHU (International Health-GDEC) and rejected at UNC Maternal and Child Health which was very surprising. Definitely thought that UNC was the best fit for me given my research and work experiences, but guess not.

    So final results:

Accepted- UCLA Epi, Columbia Epi (still no word on funding for either)

Waitlisted- JHU International Health (note: funding is notoriously awful, I went here for my MS and PhD students were paying out of pocket for their degrees in IH)

Rejected- Michigan, Berkeley, NYU, Harvard, BU, Brown

I'll most likely continue my current position and try again next year for UNC, but still waiting to see how the funding at Columbia turns out. Was really let down by UNC, it was my dream school.

Wait what, I’m just curious about JHU. I was thinking of applying for PhD in International Health but never did.

They seriously don’t offer full funding? Do they cover tuition but not living costs? Or how is it exactly?

I find it insane that a #1 public health school doesn’t offer full funding for PhD students, wow!

Has anyone heard from UCSF? I applied to the Global Health Sciences program. That is the last school I need to hear back from so I can make a decision.

Also waiting to hear back. Interviewed with them in late January and they said they will try to let us know by the end of February (which is now!). I think they are scrambling for funding. If you hear anything let me know!

I got invited to BU visit day but cant go since I'll be out of the country.. I had a 20 min phone interview last week instead. Faculty said they have only 3 funded spots for health services..

That's odd. I'm going to the BU Health Services Research PhD visit day on Friday and as much as I know from chatting with the program director, they guarantee to fund all students for 4 years (through grants or RAships). And he said that they expect 5-8 people to join the new cohort.

  4. Oh, I see! I guess they are keeping some people on hold.

I remember from my chat with the program director that he said that they make the final decision from the Prospective Students' Day pool. But I guess if many people turn them down or we turn out to be weirdos, they would reach back to the interview and pre-interview pool. Fingers crossed for you!!

  5. Two updates:

    1) Boston University sent out their Prospective Students' Day invitations that will take place on February 15. As much as I know, they will make decisions from this pool, so if you did not have an interview already and were not invited now, it probably means bad news (Health Services Research program).

    2) I contacted the Harvard Health Policy program admin asking if they had already sent out all the interview requests, because it was getting late, and she said that yes they had. So that probably means a rejection. ?

Congrats!!! They gave me an option to attend interview day or Skype.

    Hi! Congrats to you too!

Same program? Is it perhaps because you are located in California? Did they offer travel reimbursement? I'm in Boston so I don't know why I didn't get that option. Hmm...
