kertu got a reaction from apex45 in PHD Applicants: Fall 2019
Wait what, I’m just curious about JHU. I was thinking of applying for PhD in International Health but never did.
They seriously don’t offer full funding? Do they cover tuition but not living costs? Or how is it exactly?
I find it insane that a #1 public health school doesn’t offer full funding for PhD students, wow!

Emailed them yesterday. Haven’t heard anything!

Okay great! That is what I thought. I am going to send them an email and see what the deal is.

Also waiting to hear back. Interviewed with them in late January and they said they will try to let us know by the end of February (which is now!). I think they are scrambling for funding. If you hear anything let me know!

I'm wondering what they meant by an on-site interview though. Did you apply for Health Services Research or Epidemiology? I don't know about the epi program.

Two updates:
1) Boston University sent out their Prospective Students' Day invitations that will take place on February 15. As much as I know, they will make decisions from this pool, so if you did not have an interview already and were not invited now, it probably means bad news (Health Services Research program).
2) I contacted the Harvard Health Policy program admin asking if they had already sent out all the interview requests, because it was getting late, and she said that yes they had. So that probably means a rejection. ?

Anyone concerned with hearing from programs, buckle up.
While the waiting is, to quote the late Tom Petty, "the hardest part" it does indicate they haven't gotten to your file or you have not been immediately rejected. At least this applies to the high volume schools. I received my HSPH rejection first, then other schools began to follow. February contained my highest volume of notifications though, so be on the lookout then.
Good luck!

Received a phone interview invitation from Boston University (Health Services Research PhD program) a couple of days ago. The lucky ones passing that round will be invited to the Prospective Students' Day in February.
