  1. Hi. I hope someone can help me. I applied first to Uni A, then later at the very last minute to UNI B. A professor from UNI A who interviewed me in December agreed to be my major advisor. He was so nice to me and was even the one who followed through with the committee about my application. He also updates me every now and then. I was eventually accepted and he was the first to let me know. I was delighted that I got an offer and my sister encouraged me to sign the letter and email it immediately as we were thinking that the other university would not make an offer anymore. So I emailed back the signed letter the very same day it was sent to me. Exactly a week after, I got a very generous offer from a prestigious UNI B. We never expected that. Their offer was spot on and I'm really interested in their program because it's a better choice career-wise. Now my sister wanted me to withdraw my application from UNI A and express my interest at UNI B asap. I don't know what to do. I'm very ashamed to email the professor at UNI A who was very nice and accomodating to every questions I had. I really want to join UNI B but I don't know if I should and how I should let UNI A know about it. Please help ???
  2. I have 2 pending applications to - let's say university A & B: A - I only received automated email from their graduate admissions that they already forwarded my application to the graduate advisor. - department's website refers application status inquiry to their graduate secretary; tried to email GS but auto-response states she has already retired - emailed graduate advisor twice but he's not responding to my email * application website does not show anything = who else can I contact to check the status of my application? can I contact the department head? I have no previous contact with any(prospective) professors. B - graduate admissions replied to my email stating they already forwarded my application to the department - department's website refers application status inquiry to their graduate secretary; emailed twice but was not getting any response * no application website to check the status = can I email the prospective professor who interviewed me? or should I contact the graduate advisor?

  4. thank you Noegenesis and Hk328. I already submitted my application and didn't include the reason about the time gap. I felt like the committee might think I was trying to solicit pity from my background story and i don't like that. Besides, the number of words in SOP are limited so I removed that part.
  5. I studied Engineering for only 3 semesters. I didn't pursue because of financial difficulty as I had to work. Fast forward to 10 years, I went back to college and was able to earn my bachelor's degree in Biology. When I was applying for PhD program (in the US), a relative/professor at a university in Texas (we're both Asians) said that I only need to submit my Biology transcript even if the instruction states "submit transcript from all institutions attended." My problem is that, my grades from Engineering went downhill because of the financial struggle I had. Despite that, I still included my Engineering transcript because there were around 24 credit units that were transferred to my Biology course. My question is: if the admissions team convert my GPA to 4.0 scale, will they include the credits I earned from Engineering which are irrelevant to Biology?
  6. I can totally relate. Last year I applied to only 1 uni for PhD program and was overly confident that I would be admitted because of high GPA and excellent recommendation but average GRE scores. I was completely devastated upon seeing online that my application was denied. It was the most painful heartbreak I felt and I was so embarrassed that I isolated myself and cut off any communication with anyone connected with my college life including my close friends. I already gave up my PhD dream but my family encouraged me to give it one more try. Now I am also anxiously waiting for the results - praying for the best but emotionally preparing for the worst.
  7. I am an international student applicant. I submitted my application last month, December 2018, for Biological Sciences PhD and received a secondary application request through email. After completing the secondary application, an email response says that if I advance to the next round, I would receive an email by January 10 which was 2 days ago. Since I have not received any, I understand that it is highly unlikely that I made it. I just would like to know how to confirm that because upon logging in Student Center, it does not say anything. I wanted to contact the Admissions Team but it says on their web's FAQ that they won't be able to answer inquiry about admission decisions. Does anyone know how the process at UT Southwestern goes? Thank you in advance for any input.
