  1. I know that we are hitting crunch time with acceptance deadlines around the corner, but I was hoping somebody will be able to help me decide. I have been accepted by the Systems, Synthetic, and Physical Biology program at Rice, as well as BioE. At Berkeley/UCSF... Does anybody have any ideas on which one is better? I know Berkeley is Berkeley but it almost seems like Synbio will be bigger at Rice within the next few years. I've been going back and forth with my decision for over a month now and I just dont want to make the wrong choice.
  2. I've been given interviews for the Bioengineering Program at UC Berkeley-UCSF and the Systems, Synthetic, and Physical Biology program at Rice University. Does anybody know anything about these two programs? I'm specifically thinking about the quality and relevance of their synbio research output, as well as any comparisons of the programs themselves. I'm also worried about the housing situation for grad students at berkeley, as well as grad students being way overworked. Does anybody know what its like to work for Jay Keasling or Adam Arkin in particular? I know they are big names, but Im wondering what the lab environments are like.
  3. Does anybody here know how the Systems, Synthetic, and Physical Biology program at Rice compares to the Bioengineering program at Berkeley-UCSF? I'm real interested in Synthetic Biology research and have interviews at both schools, but don't know how the relevance and quality of these programs compare to each other. Any insight would be much appreciated.
  4. I've been looking around different phd programs that have a focus area in synthetic biology research, and have really like two programs in particular, namely the Bioengineering Program at UC Berkeley-UCSF and the Systems, Synthetic, and Physical Biology program at Rice University. Does anybody know anything about these two programs? I'm specifically thinking about the quality and relevance of their synbio research output, as well as any comparisons of the programs themselves.
