  1. Thank you so much for your advice, that is perfect! I have sent an email to both of them separately, and already heard back from one . Let's see how it goes. Really appreciate your help!
  2. Hey! Perfectly fine to use books in your references. I use it in grant applications all the time, and got a few already funded. Good luck!
  3. Hi guys, I have a quick but complex question and hope someone can help me out. There are two professors I am very interested in working with at one university. They study pretty much the same thing, exactly what I am interested in as well. Both are great professors it seems, but I'm not sure they are good colleagues. I prepared an email to one, but I actually would not mind to even work with both of them, or either. Considering the research interests are the same, the email I drafted can be applied to both of them really. While they have published many papers together, I cannot find much published between just two of them. I guess it's a long winded way to say that I am not sure what do I do now? Do I just email one first and see what he says? Do i email both of them in one email and bluntly say I am interested in being co-supervised? Or some other option? Not sure what is the etiquette on this. Thank you so much in advance!
  4. Hi all, I am planning on applying for this cycle and preparing everything right now. I have a masters from UK (clinical forensic), so hope to get waivers for some courses. I am contacting potential faculty, and one individual I was in touch with said that they review applications usually after they are reviewed by the program but are planning on taking on one student. They did not identify if they are interested in my candidature (even though our research interests align very well). Is that common? Should I apply and just list this member of faculty or would you contact other members from that same institution? Previously I had professors being very responsive, offering to meet and so I know they will be supportive when reviewing my application. But this is a tad unusual. Another question, I did my GRE last year, and got very mediocre results (73rd percentile in Verbal, 56th in Quant, and 92in AW). Would you say with these scores I should try to rewrite or at this point concentrate my energy on getting publications? Thank you all, and good luck!
  5. Anyone has any insight on OGS ? I know for UTSC, deadline is in May (way after all the decisions were made). Anyone knows if they do perhaps rolling acceptances for OGS? For example if you receive CGS-M, you may email your POI to inform them and it is possible (albeit unlikely) that you might get acceptance if you were rejected before. Anyone knows when the decisions on OGS come out? And whether the same reasoning applies here?
  6. I wonder if this timeline is university specific. Probably is, huh? As long as the final result is there by April 1. But good to know they might not leave you hanging once they know you're out of the competition.
  7. Can I request the same please??? Thank you!
  8. Same here.... So frustrating!
  9. I don't imagine you will be declined by SGS. They are probably just taking a while to update the system. I wouldn't worry. Quick question, is this for OISE or UTSC?
  10. I had the exact same panic when I read it. But apparently at like UOttawa deadline is Dec 1. While UTSC is in May.
  11. Oh congrats! Do you mind telling me who is your POI, and your scores for other sections? Would like to know what to strive for for next year
  12. Not for most schools. I believe most are looking for a high verbal. But UTSC is looking for a high quant.
  13. This was definitely the most frustrating part for me. And my POI at UTSC told me that they look at Quant score to gauge how you will do in PhD (makes little sense to me, apart from the fact that program is stats heavy, so why not test stats instead?). Did you have to take Psych GRE? I got time for next year to retake it, but I wonder if I should (got 81st percentile). It's mandatory for schools I am applying for, not just recommended.
  14. Hi everyone, I noticed that convo on this thread shifted towards concerns on going to school later on and whatnot, so I thought this might be a good place to ask my questions and voice my concerns in hopes of getting some advice. I know at least one person here switched careers and now getting into clinical Psych. What motivated you? I graduated Hons BSc back in 2014, went on and did my masters in Clinical Forensic Psych afterwards in a prestigious school, then got a position and currently working in research in a major research institution in Canada. I have not applied to PhD since my graduation from Masters for a while and only applied to one school this year (assuming rejection already as I have not heard back). To be honest I am feeling rather hesitant about pursuing clin psych PhD, and this feeling comes and goes. On one part to get in would be a dream come true as I'm very passionate about forensic clin psych (both research and clinical parts of it, and had plenty of experiences to really understand what the field is about, all the ins and outs which I am happy with). On the other hand its a tad stressful considering I am not fresh off undergrad, the program takes at least 6 years, its rather small amount of funding throughout, all the research indicating prevalence of mental health issues in PhD students, all the negatives of being a woman in academia, and not an insignificant matter of being in my early/mid thirties by the time I graduate. I only applied to one program also because its my home city, and by accepting grad school I do not have to uproot my life and my fiance's life too, and most students in this school under my POI supervision graduate within 5 years, which is rather great. But chances of being accepted here are quite slim, and so I wonder if it makes sense to apply across Canada next year and move if I were to be accepted. I would really appreciate some advice, whether you have similar thought, and if so, what motivated you to pursue PhD in spite of these. I honestly dont want to be a downer here, and I am so humbled by all your guys motivation and success, its very inspiring. I got none of my friends who pursued clinical psych, so I honestly have no idea who else to reach out to here. Thanks, guys!
  15. Still under review and radio silence from POI. But as I mentioned previously, I've been informed they are still reviewing applications, and offers of admissions are pending, although the first round of interviews was completed. One person mentioned he attended the interviews, and someone already got accepted. But otherwise all quiet.
  16. Not sure if anybody here is interested in UTSC, but I heard back that t hey finished the first round of interviews, but they are still reviewing applications and offers of admission are still pending. Not sure if that means there will be a second round of interviews, or what, but thought I'd share.
  17. Wondering the same thing. Also, anyone knows if these are the full panel interviews or just with your POIs?
  18. Hi all! I just finally decided to join. You all seem wonderfully supportive! I am sitting here, nervously awaiting interviews. I only applied to UTSC this year (my first time), and seems like they are either not sticking to their interview dates, or perhaps I am not moving forward. Application still shows under review. Let me know if anyone hears back from UTSC. Seems like only one person here received interview invite.
