  1. Got an email from UCSD not too long after this post! Looks like we applied to different programs there, though.
  2. Thanks for your kind words! Not an hour later I got an acceptance from UCSD--today is really whiplash! I honestly can't believe it--I've never been further west than South Dakota and they're flying me out for an open house!
  3. Waitlisted at UT Austin yesterday and just now rejected from UW Madison (with an exceptionally kind personal email, but still)--what a rough week. Is anyone else here going to Northwestern's Comm interview visit the weekend after next? I was feeling good about it, but being rejected after an interview I thought went well has be a bit on edge.
  4. Ha, I think there's still time for all of them! Doesn't look like anyone's heard from any of them yet. Sick of waiting, though, inevitably.
  5. I was really hoping to hear from Brown, Michigan, and UCSD this week, but it's looking like not. I imagine next week will be dramatic for all of us...
  6. Looks like at least five based on the results page (I assume those include all of us). I would imagine that it'll depend on who moves on the shortlist--I know a lot of programs try to admit certain numbers of ethnic studies/gender studies/other areas of interest to keep their cohorts balanced and spread out faculty demand, so if they drop a gender studies person probably another gender studies person will get pulled from the pool, etc. Could be wrong, but I'd be surprised if the waitlist is just top-to-bottom ranked.
  7. Just got an email, wait-listed at Texas; they've shrunk their cohorts to 3-5 students, according to the email, so. Anyone have better luck?
  8. Every time my email dings I panic a little, because, you know. This time it was an email from the gardening website I frequent with the header "with POTATOES, the possibilities are endless!!" Needless to say, I feel a little silly... no news today.
  9. Third on UMich. I live about an hour south of there, and I can tell you that every campus around here was closed for a lot of last week--I wouldn't be surprised if it threw off some meetings. I know it threw off our admissions committees...
  10. Who all here is waiting on Brown? Mid-Feb seems to be a realistic timeline for them--this week and next week are shaking out to be real nailbiters
  11. Has anyone at all heard from Texas though? If I saw some acceptances already I'd be sure I was out, but there doesn't seem to be word in either direction.... I got my first acceptance today (UIUC Institute of Communications Research!!) so I'm a lot less panicked, but still anxiously awaiting everywhere else...
  12. lol! I'm in the rural midwest already, thinking about the cost of living in Chicago and Madison makes me sweat a little....
  13. Congrats @kaithewriter! I haven't heard anything from Madison since my interview, but we'll see I guess. It'd be a bummer to be rejected but it wasn't my perfect fit school, so I wouldn't be heartbroken. Did they email or call? Edited to add (since this is still the most recent post): Just got an acceptance letter from UIUC/Institute of Communications Research!! My first acceptance, very excited!
  14. I was kind of hoping to hear from UT today, and (unrealistically) Michigan....
  15. @kaithewriter same!--who was your POI? @sanchxuan sometimes you can put together your own funding through a position outside of the department. idk the landscape at UW, but I'd email the department secretary and also look at their job board. In my current program I know several people who got tuition wavers and stipends through assistantships in other places--the library, the grad college, teaching in other departments, etc.
  16. I hope you're right! Maybe my interviewer was just unrealistically optimistic about the speed at which committees move, which... been there. Which track did you apply in?
  17. @IBrakeForVanJohnson did you say you'd interviewed with UW? Have you heard back/did they give you a time frame to expect to hear back?
  18. @Psyhopeful It seems beneficial to me too, which is why I was so surprised UW was clear about me entering as an MA student. I study popular science communication--I applied to programs in Comm, American Studies, and History/Philosophy of Science all with the same project pitch (well, couched in different disciplinary language, but the same at its core). I'd understand having to take some extra coursework since I don't have a hard rhet background, but still... culture studies has the unfortunate reputation of being "everything and nothing," and I definitely wonder how it's perceived by admissions committees.
  19. I haven't heard from UT.... actually, I haven't heard anything from any of the AMST programs I applied to so far, only Comms ones.
  20. First post--guess this says something about nerves. I had an interview with UW-Madison in Comm/Rhetoric in the middle of the month that I thought went well. The faculty I interviewed with said decisions would be made "in a few days," but I haven't heard anything since and it's been almost two weeks. Anyone else heard anything here? It sounds like different tracks there make decisions essentially independently. I'm nervous about transitioning, as I'm wrapping up an MA in culture studies and I worry about the appearance of discipline-hopping--UW was clear that they don't consider it a "closely related discipline," but I was invited to Northwestern's interview weekend and they seem to think it is.
