I think if you are really interested in academia, both Michigan and Berkeley give you more prestigious universities and bigger name professors. Are you a good independent worker? If you are you should totally be fine with going to the busier POI. How were the students in those labs did they seem to have a good time? I think that’s a more important measure. If you think you need more guidance you can still get it by working with older students as well. So honestly not a very professional opinion but you have some great options and I would focus on seeing where you have better research fit and lab culture fit. If you have that with Berkeley or Michigan I would go for one of them.

had a phone call with Professor few days ago and he gave me an unofficial acceptance.

Saw someone posted they got into Duke on the results page. Does anyone know if they are still admitting students or when is their visit day? That’s one of my top schools and still waiting, probably for rejection

Is this for environmental focus? Still waiting for Boulder, hahah but I guess just waiting for rejection.

I applied to environmental engineering, got in USC, rejected from Yale, waiting on UCLA, Rice, Duke, UT Austin and Colorado Boulder. I am also international so will see. But not much hope left cause people already heard from almost all the schools that I applied to! What is your specialization and where are you applying?

Still waiting for them. No updates for me from any of the other schools. Not even rejections haha

I contacted some faculty before applying for PhD in civil engineering and even had really nice phone calls with two of them. I am wondering is it a good idea to email the two professors I actually had a good connection with, either asking if I am still considered or when the decision will be made or just to reaffirm the interest? What is the best way to phrase my email? Thank you!

I am still waiting for Rice as well with environmental focus but haven’t heard anything. How did your interview go and did they say if they are interviewing everybody and when will decisions be made? Thank you! I applied to a few schools all in Environmental focus, so far only had USC interview couple of weeks ago and they still didn’t give me a decision. No other school had any updates

Hey! Congrats on all the offers. Honestly I would not focus on the rankings. The most important thing is the fit with the professor and if you have a great one at CMU I think you should go for it! Also CMU is a great engineering school so I am actually a little surprised to see it’s ranking in Chemistry. To me out of all the schools you got in, this sounds the most impressive but I am also a ChemE hahaha Also I would strongly consider UCSB if you have a good fit with the professor there cause as the above poster said the location and the weather could be pretty impactful on your quality of life. Irrelevant but I know a guy who rejected Princeton to go to UCSB for ChemE.
