  1. Great to see that Amherst released their decisions. Big congrats to the admitted prospies! I'm still particularly interested to hear from Stanford, plus two more that I'd like to know the results of, regardless of my intention to take or leave their offers at this point. Those would be Rutgers and UConn, who seem to be taking their time deliberating. When I sit on one of these committees, I will do my best to see these decisions being made promptly. ?
  2. Without a bit more substantiation (who you are, or how this came to be known by you, without naming any names), that's more like troubling hearsay than reliable insight into one's application status. (Not a UMD applicant; just sayin')
  3. That's correct, tardius. As far as I know, nobody has heard a peep from them. According to the results page, last year there were interviews conducted. So far, I haven't even a clue if they've incorporated interviews into their reviews this year. Also, wow @ the stuff about McGill on the results page. It was me who posted the last comment asking people to consider more thoughtfully the content that they're leaving behind for future generations of applicants.
  4. Well, there it is. No go for me, but I couldn’t be happier that this MIT wait is finally over. At this point, I’m still waiting to hear from UMass before I’m comfortable saying that my decision is made.
  5. I noticed that within the past hour, as well. If it's any consolation, last year they made their notifications reverse-alphabetically. We'll know soon.
  6. Taking courses at the LSA Institute offers an unparalleled opportunity for exposure to a vast array of courses, professors, and students. If you are able to swing the cost, I highly recommend it (there are also very competitive scholarships — always worth a try!). To be sure, it’s one of the best ‘networking’ opportunities a hopeful student has available to them. Most Summer schools only last for a week or two; the LSA Institute is a whole month. In my case (a few years ago), I made tons of friends (students and professors) which have lasted, and new friendships have spawned from those in the years since. Going to a place like that, taking courses to your heart’s content and hanging out with linguists for a month, is a sure fire way to fall in love with the field if you still feel like you’re on the outside looking in. I can’t recommend it enough. - As far as PhD applications go, don’t worry too much. Just do what you think is interesting, put your heart into it, and send applications to places that you think will appreciate it, and appreciate you.
  7. Hi all. This is my first post, but I’m no stranger to the struggle. I got tired of checking the results pages so often and decided to jump in here for some camaraderie. Congrats to everybody who’s received some happy news. And for those still biting their nails over GG programs on the East Coast – stay strong! I think we’ll have a fair bit of decisions being communicated this week. :’)
