  1. From my reading of this and personal waitlist experience, they will likely update you before April 15, so long as they know before April 15.
  2. I study American business history in the latter half of the nineteenth century, and am in my second year. It goes without saying that the job market is a trashfire now and will be in five years when I finish. Thinking ahead, I would be grateful for any insight there is for those that have gone/know of someone who has gone from a history PhD to consulting. There are so many online resources for STEM to consulting, which is interesting to me because a humanities/social sciences PhD offers more in the way of transferable skills.
  3. Admitted off of the UVA waitlist with a full fellowship offer. Best of luck to everyone else!
  4. Similarly for me, any UVA admits please let the department know!
  5. Hey guys, if I'm on a waitlist should I take it as a good or bad thing that I haven't heard anything thus far/have not been invited to prospective student day? It's been radio silence on their end after I sent follow up emails confirming my interest and commitment in the program. It's UVA and its my absolute dream department to work with
  6. First of all, congratulations! is this a Canadian MA program? If you don't mind sharing, I'm really curious about what university has a two year MA. I'm an undergrad at McGill and ours (as well as UofT and UBC I believe) is only one year.
  7. Just got rejected from Chicago PhD but accepted to MAPSS w 18k funding. Currently my options are University of Mississippi and then now this offer for American History..thoughts?
  8. Does anyone know if we haven't heard from UT Austin is that an assumed rejection at this point? Can't believe this cycle is sort of ending already...I'm still waiting on a few MA programs I applied to. BTW is anyone is waiting for the Ole Miss history MA program we hear back on the 25th
  9. Same--I'm trying to figure out if there's a departmental-wide waitlist or different lists for Americanists, Medievalists, etc. Best of luck to us!
  10. Nice! Did you get an email from the DGS or just the email telling you to check the app portal?
  11. Did UVA say anything to you about how often people get off the waitlist/odds of acceptance in your waitlist letter?
  12. I thought Harvard wanted to have an idea of who is going to accept their offers to help them firm up the depth of the waitlist and ultimately the rejections, but now I'm not so sure. I unfortunately predict it is as simple as they haven't hit "send" on the rejection email button on their application software
  13. Does anyone know if Harvard waitlists have gone out? I've already assumed rejection but still holding on to some hope
  14. Thanks for your input--they told me although they can make no promises there was a "real" chance of admitting me. Is it possible they are just bullshitting me or being honest?
  15. hey long time lurker here. Rejected from Yale, Stanford, Rice, Columbia, Johns Hopkins, and presumably Harvard and Chicago as well this cycle for Southern history. Just wanted to say even though my cycle isn't going as planned, I'm really truly happy for everyone who's been getting good news lately. Despite getting rejected from lower-tier programs, I've actually been waitlisted at *the* top program for my field within American history & heard from the department that I'm number 1 on the waitlist. Should I have any hope? It's my dream school, dream advisors, etc. and I don't want to get too excited because I'm worried I'll be heartbroken in the end anyway
