  1. IMHO: Although my home discipline is history, I cross over to art history from time to time, and am semi-familiar with visual culture and photographic theory. I too use a lot of photographs and images in my papers, and I say definitely include them if you're writing about them. But where to place them in your work really depends how you are analyzing them in the paper. If you're using a lot of images (and not photographs) I would place them as appendixes. That way the committee has the option of glancing through them, but they don't clutter your work. If you're analyzing 2-3 I would place them within the paper. Although personally I find it annoying when images are all grouped together in one section of a paper instead of placed thoughtfully within the text. Good luck!
  2. I think I will be applying to 6 schools. In Canada I don't have as many choices Question for those applying to many schools: are you contacting any potential supervisors prior to applying to all of your schools? Or only your top choices? Thanks! C
  3. I wish I could say something more positive - but I asked around my department (History) and found that it's very rare to come off the reversion list (for my discipline anyways). The Graduate Coordinator was telling me about a former student who had an excellent file every year and was #1 on the list two years in a row and never received OGS. But SSHRC offers are going out soon and some people might chose to head out of province so there is always hope! Depends how many offers they sent out and if they are even going to be giving offers to those on the reversion list. Good luck to all on the list! And please keep us updated on reversion status'
  4. Thanks!
  5. How long ago did you call/leave a msg? I just called and left one today. Hopefully won't be too long! I feel so bad for that woman lol having to deal with all of us.
  6. Sorry to hear about your results this year. Did you end up receiving the award off the reversion list last year? And if so, when did you hear? I'm on the reversion list this year and am curious to hear of people actually getting off the list! Thanks. EDIT: Sorry didn't realize you had answered this earlier in the thread! I still can't believe that you can be first on the list and still not receive the award. It's so frustrating!
  7. I wonder if anyone who's been affected by this ridiculous mistake is out there? My heart goes out to you! On Second Thought We Don't Want You and Accidental e-mail Geeze!
  8. Hello everyone, Please forgive me if this post belongs somewhere else (I'm new to the site). I just finished year 1 of my MA and plan on doing a PhD afterward. I have already researched potential schools/supervisor for fall 2011. Now when should I be contacting them? Is this summer too early? Or would early Fall (say September) be more reasonable? Also, some people might disagree, but I am very interested in continuing at my current institution for my PhD. I would love to continue working with my supervisor. The problem is I mentioned something very briefly to him about doing a PhD earlier this month and he said something along the lines of "don't get too ahead of yourself, I would worry about finishing this year first." I finished strongly so my performance is not an issue. Why would he be trying to deter me from this conversation? How and when should I approach him for this conversation, and what sort of reactions should I be looking for? Thank you for your support! Clio
  9. After lurking for awhile I've decided to join. Plus I wanted to share this info with you all: I'm on the reversion list and I just called. Turns out Gerry is retired and after getting redirected a few times, I finally made it to someone's voice mail who (for obvious reasons) is not answering her phone. The message clearly stated that she would not be dealing with OGS inquiries until the end of the month. If anyone else wants the number feel free to PM me. I chose not to leave a message and will instead call in May. I don't understand, last year I got OGS and was told my chances were very high again this year. Has anyone on the reversion list received the award? And if so, when did you hear?
