  2. Thanks for all the feedback. I think I may get some business cards. I most likely wont go into academia after I graduate, so I want to network for future jobs and business cards will help.
  3. Can all PhD students call themselves PhD Candidates? Or only those who are done with coursework?
  4. Do any of the current PhD students have business cards? I know some universities have printing services for PhD students to have business cards. Just wondering what others are doing.
  5. Does your university supply you with health insurance with your graduate assistantship? Are you getting the same health benefits as employees of the school?
  6. If you already know you want to teach, go ahead and go the traditional teaching route and make that your career choice.
  7. Jury consultant- look at Tufts, UTEP, FIU, Kentucky, Arkansas, Arizona State, U of Arizona, UC Irvine, UF (criminology, law, and society)...those all have jury researchers.
  8. Recently saw a Psychology professor tweet about this site that allows you to submit and look at schools and their stipends. It's basically just like the results page but for stipends. Thought I would share to get more people to submit their info. http://gradpay.herokuapp.com/ It's also nice to see what other departments are giving out compared to your own.

  10. 1. Fit 2. Fit 3. Fit Of course funding is important and the school, but when making a list of schools you want to apply to, make sure the research fits. You don't want to apply to Harvard even thought they do not do the research you want to do. Maybe the top researcher in your area is at a state school in Ohio. That school would be better, in my opinion, than Harvard that doesn't do the research you want to do.
  11. Thanks for all the suggestions. I have Nate Silver's book on my shelf. Just gotta find time to read it. Has anyone read The Invisible Gorilla: How our Intutiions Decieve us by Simons & Charbis?
  12. What are some good nonfiction psychology books that you have read? I know Steven Pinker has written a few books.
  13. This really helps. Thanks for all of the suggestions. I don't start until the fall, but it's great knowing all these ideas before I start. I am working on a generic website right now that shows my research interests, cv, etc.
  14. All I can tell you is that the Chicago campus is APA accredited which is a good thing.
