  1. Interesting. Did they mention when Harvard expects to release decisions? I would think that Harvard would be least affected of any school by funding difficulties, given their crazy levels of wealth.
  2. Anyone else feel that decisions have been very delayed for a lot of schools this year? If so, do we think this is likely due to uncertainty with funding, or what?
  3. Finally got my Columbia rejection, lol
  4. I'm also still waiting for a decision (IR subfield). Not sure why there are so many schools that don't send out all their decisions at once—seems like a strange approach.
  5. I haven't even received a decision from Columbia lol. Assuming likely rejection at this point if they're already sending visit weekend info...
  6. Only 4 years unfortunately -- and a pretty small stipend relative to other schools. While I am probably leaning more towards non-academic jobs at this point in time, I am interested in keeping my options open, so it would be nice to go somewhere where getting an academic job seems like a real possibility. Thanks for sharing -- is your offer from AU SIS, or is it the Political Science PhD from the School of Public Affairs? In any case, I think you're right that it's only likely to get harder in the years to come, so it's probably best to just take the best offer we get this time around. It's just a bit difficult to handle from an ego perspective, frankly, as I really thought I was competitive for top schools. Still, a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush, I suppose...
  7. I tend to agree that things are likely to be more difficult next year. And yes, I got into American University's PhD in International Relations program (housed within the School of International Service). The curriculum and faculty seem like a good fit, but I have some concerns about the funding as well as potential placement following the program (given they aren't all that highly ranked). I also don't think my application would change much next year. However, I've head from others that your results applying to schools one cycle are not necessarily predictive of your results the next cycle, as the composition of the admissions committee changes considerably from year to year. I'm not all that sure how true this is, though.
  8. Man, this is depressing. Penn was one my remaining hopes for getting into a program I really wanted to attend. I have one acceptance, but it's from my last choice -- and I'm seriously wondering whether I should be considering reapplying next year, or whether the landscape for next cycle may be even worse than this one. Anyone in a similar position?
  9. Yeah, tough -- gotta wonder what story is there
  10. I'm not putting much stock in those posted results. Given how many applicants Harvard has, I think if they'd released decisions, we would see a whole lot more.
  11. Oof...well I guess that about ends it for this week...the radio silence has been brutal
  12. I've only ever played Civ 5, into which I sunk many many many hours. Skipped Civ 6 but am excited to try something new.
  13. Quite right. Well, I just downloaded Civ 7 on Steam, so that may be my new go-to distraction.
  14. No more decisions yet for me this week, which has been a bit surprising. Hopefully that changes today--good luck to everyone!
  15. From what I've seen on the results page, it doesn't seem like they've sent out any decisions yet. Judging from previous years, Penn usually seems to be very late compared to other schools. I'm also anxiously awaiting their word, as Penn is one of my top choices.
  16. When did you receive a decision? My portal doesn't show any status updates yet.
  17. Good to know -- definitely holding out hope as Georgetown is one of my top choices!
  18. FWIW, I'm also waiting on both Georgetown and JHU. I'm not entirely convinced that Georgetown has sent all acceptances as yet, as I only see a couple on the results page (and not for every subfield). I could be wrong, though.
  19. This is probably cognitive bias on my part, but does anybody else have the feeling that basically every program has released decisions EXCEPT your top choices? I've still got more than half my applications pending, including basically all the schools I'm most excited about. Meanwhile it seems like the vast majority of schools overall have released by this point. Driving me nuts!
  20. Still lots of places to hear from!
  21. Congrats! Do you plan to attend? I was accepted to the AU IR PhD program (within SIS).
  22. I'm waiting on 5 myself. It's not a rejection until it's a rejection...
  23. I've got a good feeling about the next couple of days!
  24. No, I haven't emailed -- I always figured it's not really helpful to do so.
