  1. I assume any answers SSHRC has given for waitlisted people (I've copied a reply below that someone posted in the Waitlist thread) would be equally applicable to those who get upgraded. I expect there will be lots of movement over the next few weeks and possibly even months due to people finalizing their plans for the academic year. But, that is just my guess. It wouldn't hurt to email SSHRC to ask, although I'd expect a somewhat vague response. "Applicants who are advised that their application has been recommended by the committee but not funded are placed on a waiting / recommended list. SSHRC uses these lists, which are committee specific, to offer awards as funds become available. Periodically, supplementary funds may become available as a result of declines of offered awards, interruptions of awards, early termination of previous awards, etc. These factors make it complex to predict when or if a particular candidate is likely to secure funding during this competition cycle. Consequently, while SSHRC offers candidates with their relative score, SSHRC does not offer candidates their committee specific ranking.
  2. Has anyone east of Montreal received their letter yet?
  3. I’m also still waiting, in Halifax. I really hope our letters are in on Monday!
  4. I emailed them a while ago to see how long they give to accept or decline and I was told about 4 weeks (so I assume 4 weeks from the date of the letter). I would try emailing them to let them know that you won’t be available to sign the letter and see if you can have uOttawa or someone else do it, or provide your acceptance by email. Hope that helps!
  5. I believe the A level and B level thing is for direct applicants only. So don’t worry that you didn’t get a letter about it from SSHRC. From what I understand about the process, as an applicant affiliated with a university, your application needed to go through an initial review at your institution. You passed that first hurdle when Lakehead selected your application to be sent to SSHRC and after that it moved on to the national competition. It is nice that SSHRC sent your application back to Lakehead. Hopefully the person who provided you with the wrong information knows now for future years how the process works. edited to clarify: I checked the website and there is an A level and B level division for affiliated applicants, but this is an internal thing and you’re supposed to hear back from your university. You would only get a letter from SSHRC about being A or B level if you’re a direct applicant.
  6. I agree. Since a portal exists for other awards and for applicants channeled through institutions, it is a bit difficult to understand why there isn’t an online system for direct applicants. I’m tempted to email and ask what my score was from my committee as a way to try to get the results before my letter arrives, but I’m resisting the urge.
  7. I don’t have experience with this, but the website says they will not provide results over the phone or by email.
  8. I lived in the US before and found that mail took about seven to ten days. Good luck! I’m a direct applicant, too, so this wait is... annoying.
  9. The online system showing it has been initiated could be a administrative housekeeping thing. Now that the results are close to being released, they may be making sure the awards system shows who has applied so they can later show if whether the application was successful. Fingers crossed that results are mailed on Monday! This wait is brutal and made worse by the fact that they snail mail the results.
